I just recently took up archery a couple years ago. I purchased a traditional style recurve and injoy shooting it very much. When I went to a few local 3d shoots that shoot IBO rules I was not allowed to shoot in the "traditional" class because my bow was a recurve. Why dont they let wooden recurve bows that shoot off the shelf with wooden arrows into the traditional class? Instead I have to compete with guys using olympic looking bows with weights and balancers and $300 a dozen carbon arrows and Hi-tech arrow rests. I consider my self a fairly good shot for the type bow I use but my scores will never come close to what the guys using these hi-tech bows can achieve. All this because my limbs have a curl in them.

Rules rarely please everyone , I shoot in the traditional class and the one rule I don't understand is that all your arrows must be the same color and have the same color fletching . Don't understand it but I live with it

Which clubs are you shooting at? I believe the Southeastern Indiana Big 4 allows you to shoot your setup in the traditional class. I live in Cincy and it is actually closer for me to shoot the Indiana shoots. The sites are Sunman, St. Leon, Batesville, and North Vernon (the last one is a pretty good drive 1 hr. from westside). We started 2 weeks ago and go every Sunday thru Sept.

Rules for the traditional class have evolved at the direction of the participants.
Also the same in RU. If the majorities of these classes would choose for amendment, I see no reason the board would not go along with it.At present there has not been any input to change these rules.
The rule pertaining to color and length also pertains to weight and shaft material.

Its a problem if you have a recurve booting over 200, in a class with lonbows some of which might be 170-180. So you get nocked up to the Olympic guys. Or you and your invisible friend could have their own class. Its tough because the equipment maters in this sport, and everyone would like their own class.
Those highly deflexed longbows are the nearest thing they will let in the class to what you shoot.
