Fasstfletch, Can' t speak for anyone else, but I enjoyed your joke. I' m not offended by something obviously meant to be humorous. I' ll trade some jabs while poking fun anytime, and pretty much nothing is out of bounds as long as both sides know it' s in fun. Nor was I offended by anything in the other story itself, just the title.

That repetition, or in this case paraphrasing, of the old " ain' t no atheists in foxholes" line was just repeating and reinforcing a false and insulting remark, without any punch line involved. It was not done with intent to hurt, but the fact that it was used without thinking that it might just bother those whose belief system is discounted as worthless, sort of illustrates the need for a little more thought being given the matter, IMO.

Anyway, it' s all over as far as I' m concerned. The editor was good enough to make a personal reply to explain that there was no intent to offend, which I felt was a very nice gesture, above and beyond my expectations. Now that he' s heard from someone about it, the next time such an occasion presents itself, I suppose he' ll likely give it a seconds pause and maybe reconsider using something that may be offensive to some as a title. That' s all I hoped to accomplish in mentioning the matter.
