BowPro...
Are there any plans to get rid of the 10x magnification rule on binos? I' ve been hearing rumors and would just like to get the skinny from the man himself. I know this has been talked about in the past, but I thought that with the change in the X to 11 ring, this bino rule might also be due for an upgrade. Thanks.

RE: BowPro...
that rule is in place already, and has been for a few years, the max power bino you can use for ibo is 8X. i think it changed about 4 years ago, maybe more. i think it would be nice to get rid of the restriction, but the rule as i understand is to keep folks from using the bino as a rangefinder.

RE: BowPro...
I think it would be neat to do away with binos all together. It would make everyone learn the targets, instead of seeing who can spend the most to see the lines.

RE: BowPro...
It would also speed things up a lot. There wouldn' t be people looking at the target for a minute, drawing, let down and look for another minute.

RE: BowPro...
hey eb whats the hurry? the time it takes to shoot a course has been getting
better all the time, this year was a record for us we breezed thru them all. i like to watch people shoot thats part of the fun and the binoculars make that better. any faster and we' ll be going to boston.......... you know for the marathon. |
RE: BowPro...
I' d still like to hear from Ken, so I' m just bumping this. Thanks.

RE: BowPro...
How can you use a 10x has a range finder and not an 8x.....Just wondering..Thanks..

RE: BowPro...
Hawgz, I can help you with that one, as I was pretty disgruntled when the rule came out.
Apparantly, there is a bino manufacturer, I never did find out which one, that made a model of 10x binos that had a focus knob that you could turn 2 or 3 full revolutions worth of of adjustment. Any pair of binos I ever owned, the focus knob moves less than 1/2 revolution from one end to the other. I could see where a focus knob with that much travel might be capable of being used as a crude rangefinder. I wish the IBO would have just outlawed that particular brand of binos, instead of making me buy another set that I will never use anywhere but an IBO shoot. But hey, it is a small price to pay for having fun!;) |
RE: BowPro...
Sorry I did not get back to you yesterday.
There has not been any push to change the rule. The subject has not been broached by the board for the fall aganda. ken12 |
RE: BowPro...
Is this something that could be put on the agenda for the fall meeting? Maybe do a survey at the remaining shoots to see what everyone else thinks? Thanks Ken.
