Anybody here shoot ASA?

RE: Anybody here shoot ASA?
Hi Fawn,
I shoot both IBO and ASA meets, on the local level. I' m not an excellent archer, like many that post here. I can hit a paper plate at 20 yds, but I can' t put five arrows into a quarter at that or any range. That being said, gives you some idea of the quality or lack thereof of my shooting level. IBO has 35 yards as its maximum range, ASA has 30 yds this year, 5 yards shorter. IBO puts me into the Recurve Classes for several reasons. (arrows, seal skin, three under), ASA puts all recurves and longbows into the same class. For information on ASA rules visit this site. http://www.asaarchery.com/2003%20Rules.htm For IBO rules visit this site http://www.ibo.net/rules/ The most important part of the ASA rules on " Traditional" to me is the " One finger must touch the arrow nock" . This allows me to shoot my longbow in the traditional class without further penality. Still have to shoot against Recurves, just as I would have to in IBO, but here all Longbows are grouped together with the Recurves, and not just those like me. What would be ideal to me would be a melding of the two sets of rules. gg |

RE: Anybody here shoot ASA?
I try to shoot at least two of the Pro-Ams each year. I enjoy the 12 rings, guaranteed shooting times (A.M. or P.M.), and a chance at some gas money. Overall, they run pretty smooth.

Has anyone from IBO told you the sealskin is not allowed? I used it qualifying and at the worlds with no problem. If it not permitted for Mtrd, than it cannot be used in the new HR either since the rule reads the same for both concerning allowable rests. I believe that because it is a soft and compresses to 1/8 inch, it as allowed, but have never been told so officially. Good luck in the upcoming season Steve |
RE: Anybody here shoot ASA?
Hi SteveBNy,
Congratulations on your participation in those meets. Hope you shot a good score and had fun. I have never shot in a meet that high up the ladder, nor to my knowledge, even seen an IBO official. I have based that statement on the 1/8" rule and the fact that the sealskin does stick up more than the allowed amount. Glad to know that its legal, now if I someone would just tell me that three under was legal. (grin) Then I could switch to woodies and shoot in the longbow class. I' d even trade for a Howard Hill Wesley to do so. (smile) Thanks for your informative post to mine. Take care, gg |
