I have a quick question for the serious Hoyt shooters out there. I just signed a deal with a shop to shoot Hoyt for them. I am in the process of picking out my bow right now. I figured I was going to shoot the Katera XL, but as I am looking I am not sure now. The Katera XL has good ATA at 36" and a nice BH at 7.5. However, I see the Katera XL has xt 500 limbs, where at the 737 has xt 1000 limbs, the pro elite and ultra elite have the xt 2000 limbs. All of these bows are pretty close in ATA, with the pro elite having the biggest BH at 8". What I don't know right now, is what the difference in the limbs is. The Katera XL has the fastest IBO speed, but ASA limits me to 280fps, so speed is not a huge factor. Can anyone help me out by explaining the difference? I figured on calling Hoyt to have them explain it, but that will have to wait until I am out of work, so I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone can help me out here. If I am correct, it has to do with the length of the limbs. Kateras are their most parallel limbs and have smaller brace heights with the XT500 limbs. While others like the Pro Elite even offer options for the limbs, XT2000, XT3000, or the XT 3500 Limbs. And if you notice the brace height and the ATA gets larger.

You can find this info on their website. After selecting a bow, click on the "click for cam and limb options" and it will show what limbs it is available in and all the tech stuff. Other than length, I believe they are all the same. Hope this helps. I have the Katera and love it. It is very smooth, fast, and unbelievably quiet!

strutn buck you are correct it does have to do with the limb length. But that doesent mean that there will be a specific speed for each limb. It depends on the bow setup. But it is true that tah longer your limbs are the slower the bow will go.

Thanks hoytarcher, I thought that was what the difference was, but wasn't 100 % sure. The #'s that I have posted were from hoyt and I used them to show the difference in the brace height and ATA depending on the limb.

I can't seem to find any diff in the graph between the Cam & 1/2 PLUS and the C2.

Even if you shoot ASA. You want a bow with a fast IBO speed. That way you can use a larger, Heavier arrow and still hit the 288 mark. They allow 288 for inconsistancies in chronographs.

Untill you hit a chrony that checks different than yours at home and puts you at 289 fps,then you are dq'd.

Don't try that game,it isn't worth it.There isn't a person on the planet than can tell the difference in 4-5 fps on the 3-d range when the pins or slider is setup forthat speed.


I personally wouldn't choose a parallel limb bow for competition.They aren't as s table for most and will cost you points over a season when the shot is less than perfect.There is a reason none of the pros are shooting parallel limbed bows.

I personally prefer some limb length over a longer riser but that is a personall choice.I like the feel better.

The Elite series bows are some awesome shooters and both have good 3-d speed.But they are expensive plus they have the shoot through.If either are a factor,the 737 is a good choice.

Yea don't play the speed game that close. Like he said one foot and your time money and effort are wasted.


Me I am shooting the Katera this year. The thing drives tacks. I shot the Vulcan last year and didn't finish out of the top 20 nationally, and this year with the Katera I finish 10th at Cleveland for the indoor worlds. Good start for this year.So it is going to come down to the indian.

can you give me a link to some archery shop on line because a want to buy hoyt katera xl and i dont know where? i come from poland and in my country bows are wery expensive. I want to buy from u.s.a but i dont know about anything about shops on line. Please HELP!! it;s very very important for me:-)i hope they can send to poland
