New to IBO - couple of ?'s...

I got addicted to 3d shooting last year and want to travel to compete on the heartland triple crown this year.

The shoots are listed as 2 days - do you shoot both days to 'score'?

What class would I be in - MBR I presume - I shoot AMBHFS in NFAA shoots - I shoot a compound, pin sights (no lens), release, short stabilizer etc..

Is there a 'standard' number of targets that these shoots typically have? (25 or 30 or ?)

How *good* do you have to be to win - in MBR class with 30 targets the new max points would be 330 - are top scores consistantly over 300?

Do I have to be a member of something (IBO or ??) before shooting a tourney?

Thanks a ton!

Your bow setup puts you in either MBR or HC, HC depends on your arrows 4 inch fletch, screw in points. MBR will take any arrow as long as you are under 280fps, or over 5 gr/lb.

The new 11 scoring giving a 330 for 30 targets is new this year, but for a national level (triple crown/world) to win on a 40 target course where 400 was max, you need to at least shoot 390 to win.

For non-national, who knows. National Triple crowns are held over 3 days and you have to shoot 40 whenever you can, worlds is held over 4-5 days, but shooting is done 20 targets on each of Friday/Sat, then top 10 shoot 10 more on Sunday.

I am pretty sure you don't need to be a member except for the worlds, and you have to qualify for the worlds by shooting in 1 of the qualifers and placing in the top 20 in your class, MBR will be one of the biggest classes (MBO, HC, MBR are the 3 biggest).

My vanes are 1.75" Easton Diamond's so MBR it is...

What's the max distance then in MBR? 50 yards?

The 40/400 you are referring to must not be counting the 'old' 12 ring 'eh? If that's the case then with the 12's now being 11's I'm guessing the top scores will be closer to 375 instead of 390 (my thinking is that there were at least 15X's which accounted for 30pts, now it's 15....) Sound about right?

Thanks for the info!

Not sure how the Heartland Triple Crown is run, but the Michigan Triple Crown is a 30 target event shot in one day. The Heartland appears to be a World Qualifier. The National Triple Crown is a 40 target event and you can shoot however you want. It can be 40 in one day. It can be 10-20-10 on fri, sat, sun. It can be 20-20 fri, sat. However you want. But, be aware, you scorecards must be turned in before 1:00 on sunday.

huntmup, the 390 is NOT counting the 12 ring, that hasn't been used in several years, I also just went and looked at the results from last years IBO worlds, top 5 needed a 379 out of 400 (again max on a target is 10) 390 would have won, 3 people shot 380+. My guess is that the 11 ring will add about 15-20 points to the top scores and fewer added as you go down, so the top will be the top and there will be a bigger difference as you go down, ie less ties. It will make a big difference in the scores for PMR those boys shoot LOTS of X's whic are now 11 points not 10.

Max distance for MBR is 45 yards.

RE: New to IBO - couple of ?'s...

Forgive my ignoramus Bob but now I'm really confused...

I thought that in 2003 the X was going to be a 11, wher it was a 12 in years past?

I thought it was done so that shooting an X didn't completely erase an 8 - i.e. you need to shoot 2x's to make up for the 8...

So it's been raw score and X's in years past? (i.e. 390, 17X) with X's being the tie-breaker (plus shoot-off's & stuff...)

This year the scoring will then be 0, 5, 8, 10, 11 with NO counting the X's??

(told ya'll I was a newbie!!!

Huntmup, your last post was correct. In the past there wasn't a 12 in IBO, it was 10's and X's for tie breakers. This year going to the 11's will at least give you the opportunity to try and make up a few points. Good Luck

Last couple/few years there has been no 12, just x, before that there was a year or two of counting 12's.

Thanks a ton folks!!!!

I figured out my score from the last 2 state shoots I attended and I'd shoot about a 377 if it were IBO - at least I won't be laughed out of the parking lot & hopefully I'll improve!!!

Hope to see some of you (maybe) at upcoming shoots.

If you see the pickup from SD with huntmup plates come on over!!!

Thanks for all the info!!!
