In my time shooting 3D at our course.....there's only been 1 might that 200 wouldn't win.
Jeff,

To give you an idea on what type of scores you would see at a national event on those same targets, at the ASA classic last year the winner in HC shot a 422 out of 40 targets, 15 of those were 12 rings. Keep in mind the ASA puts these targets out to 40 yards for the hunter class when outside.

Last week Tim Gillinghamfrom Gold Tip won the ASA gainsville eventfrom the open pro stakes (45 yards max) with a 448 out of 40 targets, and he had 2112 rings and a few 14'smixed in there.

We have targets to 43yds. It's 34 yds from front to back of our range (a remodeled old grocery store). In 20 targets....we had (1) at 2 yds (harder than one might think).......(3) inside 20......and the rest were in the 23-40 range. Maybe I'm being naive.....but I'm thinking from those distances......anyone aiming at the 12 ring is taking a BIG chance. Anyone aiming at 14's is either phenomenal or they're gonna lose to a more conservative shooter.

Here's the range.....just trust me on the distances. (My son, shooting, last year)

That is a great looking range. It looks better than the range at that big IBO Indoor shoot at Cleveland.

The 12 ring on the targets I'm talking about are the size of a quarter.....and if you hit a LITTLE low ot eh 12 ring.....you score 8.

The 14 ring is in the far end of the 8 ring......WAY away from the 10 ring.....and risking a 5 on that target is likely (or an 8).

I'd just have to see it. I don't doubt it.....but I've just never seen that sort of precision shooting. Is this all with hunting rigs??????
You may just have to drive to West Virginia & take a look. We've got several real good pin shooters in this state. I've never shot with C.D.C, in Huntington, but the place I do shoot at, with shots ranging from 5 yds. to a 28 yd.skunk or frog...a 300 won't get you anything. The lowest score I've ever seen win was a 321. Winning scores usually are around 340-360. This is scoring...14, 12, 10, 8 & 5.
I will say the range I shoot is not near as nice or is as well lighted,as the one your son is shooting at.

It's a great range.....and we use it a LOT!

I won my first ever 3D shoot Friday night at this range. I shot hunter class (+/- 30 shooters).....and it was set up tough. I won with a 183.....and that's the truth (20 targets....not all targets even had a 12 ring.....and only 2-3 had 14 ring). We hadhard quartering-away animals.....tree limbs in play......43 yd shot on a hen turkey......GREAT fun.
