RE: IBO Winternationals
As a person that likes to shoot the IBO stuff but lives here in the Northwest where they don't have many IBO shoots with any kind of a National "flavor", my big question is why did they move the Winter National shoot to Texas??
There have been about 15 of us from Idaho, Oregon, etc. that at least can reach Arizona in less than a week without taking an airplane. It was kind of a nice deal for once. I know that the attendance wasn't big, but it did seem to be growing. Now we don't have the opportunity any more. How about a little "equal time" for the West Coast?? DDD |
RE: IBO Winternationals
I will be shooting at the Cowtown shoot, I'am a membe of that club and I practice there about once a week, It's only 10 min. from my house!
This will be my first IBO shoot ever and I'am more then a little nervous!! If anybody needs a place to camp I recommend Oakdale PArk in Glenrose,TX it's about 45 min. from the shoot but it's a nice little park that is very quiet! How many people on here are planning on being there? I'am looking forward to meeting as many new people as possible!! |
RE: IBO Winternationals
The question of why Texas is ansered by a couple points.
Texas has formed a state chapter of IBO affiliated clubs. That organization had for several years been seeking a National level IBO event. The Arizona Bowhunters Organization decided that the event in Arizona had reached it's potential in their area and chose to not operate this event for this coming year. Combine those two and that's how we got to Texas. We would love to do an event or a series in the northwest.I have spoken to several people and groups there in the past few years and expressed the same sentiment. BUT, in order to do that we have to be invited. I'm open to ideas and would love to do this. If anyone has a suggestion we are open. ken12 |

hi there, leftyjim. i used to camp at oakdale park in glen rose. you're right. it's a really nice place. my husband and i will be camped at the rv ranch just south of ft worth on i-35w. it's quiet, too, and is about 45 minutes from winternationals (interstate all the way.)
if any of you decide to camp in glen rose at oakdale park, you might want to visit nearby dinosaur state park. also, one of the best barbecue places in tx is in glen rose. i can't remember the name of it (it's not hammonds), but it's just on the left (in an old building that has wagon wheels out front)as you go into glen rose. mmmmmmmm!!! and their banana pudding!! we drive over to glen rose at least once each winter just for the barbecue. we're anxious to meet as many of you as we can. so----see you in cowtown! sandra |

RE: IBO Winternationals
jim, you'll have a great time in cowtown. if you get a chance, go to exchange street just north of downtown at the old stockyards. it's real touristy with old saloons, old hotels where cowboys used to stay over when bringing in cattle, etc... billy bob's is there as is the white elephant saloon. they have a "cattle drive" almost every day with "real cowboys." it's a neat place.
are you sure you're flying home on monday? the texas state archery association is having the 2003 texas state indoor championship tournament just about 4 or 5 miles from cowtown bowmen's range on the weekend after winternationals. we've already registered at http://www.texasarchery.org. this will be our first time to shoot an indoor tournament. kind of excited. life is good--winternationals and a state indoor tournament within 10 consecutive days. actually, i've done a lot of surfing and have found about a dozen shoots for us this winter while we're snowbirding in texas. (most are ibo qualifiers) then we're planning to go to the arizona cup in april on our way back to montana. like i said--life is good. we're excited about the new experiences and meeting new folks. have a good weekend. sandra |

I'm looking forward to this shoot. I've shot cowtown 3 or 4 times and they always have great shoots. I'll be shooting MBR, any other MBR shooters out there. Looking forward to meeting some new friends that enjoy the sport.
