speed vs grain/lbs
How many Pro shoot the typical 280 fps and how many shoot 5 grs/lbs?
Here in Italy there is a dyatribe because we consider 5grs/lbs not ethical for 3DGame, some big men can shoot up to 40/50 fps more than normal archers and they can win without yardage estimation skill. |
RE: speed vs grain/lbs
Zorro, this subject gets a periodic beating.
The bows being built today there is very little advantage to shooting a heavy poundage bow. Cam efficiency can and does make adifference andBrace height can be a factor. Draw length can be a factor. But allowing 280 without a grain weight limit allows an archer with a slower set up to get into the 280's. Tommy Gomez has a 28 inch draw length. I think Michael Braden's isthe same. They both shoot set ups that are in the 280's. Speed might get you a line sometimes. But if you work on yardage estimation and accuracy as much as many guys do on getting more speed out of their equipment, I think we all will agree who would come out the winner most of the time in that comparison. ken12 |
RE: speed vs grain/lbs
Hi Ken, I know all that you said, but today you can shoot a forgiveness bow at 280 fps (like my setup and many others) or shoot a forgiveness bow at 330 fps in the same game.
If Tommy Gomez, Heyler, Braden or so on will use a bow like that do you think that is always the same? I think that 280 fps is the most fair rule. In that thread I ask for know what shooters think about this. |
