It Oughta Be A Crime
 

I just had to relate this story to the rest of you. Today was the last day before archery season opens here in PA. I have a local pro shop that I shoot for, so I help out there whenever I can. This year the last day seemed worse than ever. I personally helped 6 different guys set up bows to go hunting tomorrow who had never shot a bow before in their lives. 6! There were 4 other guys working there also! What are these people thinking??? We as responsible bowhunters always bear the brunt of the anti bowhunters who are always talking about us crippling too many deer with our fester sticks. These people disgust me to no end, but being a business, you have to treat them the same as anyone else. Does anyone else see crap like this? I know some states require mandatory bowhunter education, but how many do? Let me know what you think. Thanks for letting me blow off steam.

You're preachin to the choir guys. I've been working part time retail for the last 6 yrs. or so and I've heard and seen it all myself.. It's frickin sickening ain't it? In a way it would be sorta cool if they made us take a proficiency <sp> test before they issue a license ... Could you imagine how many gomers wouldn't be able to hunt...LOL...

I agree with yall. Before I started shooting 3-D two years ago I still shot throught out the year. I know people that will take there bow out a day or two before bow season opens amd shoot a few times and think they are ready to hunt. I think there should be a shooting test before you get your permint to hunt. There are people out there that are calling themselves bowhunters and I do not consider them that if they do not take the time to prepare right. They owe that to the animal they are hunting.

my husband and i used to be bow-ed teachers here in montana. the course materials and schedule don't allow for adequate training with bows. participants aren't even required to take their bows to the field course as shooting is optional. we did give some private lessons to participants after the course was over--but not to nearly enough of them. they wouldn't even spend a couple of extra hours for free help.

you're right. it should be a crime.

It would be nice if we could help all these people out that REALLY want to do this sport right, but someone calling themselves a hunter but has never even picked up a bow before, much less shot one, coming into a Bow Shop on the last day before opening day to get a bow set up so that he can go hunting the next morning is ridiculous.That was the main point I was trying to make.

I guess we can hope that those people who are ignorant of what it takes to shoot a bow are equally ignorant of what it takes to get close enough to wound a deer.
