Let's Here the Deer Stories...

OK Ya' all. I know some of you foam killers are also deer hunters and some of you all have already started. I get to go after them Saturday and will let you know the results.

RE: Let's Here the Deer Stories...

i'll try to make this short but i'm a 55-yr-old old lady, so i can get wound up. my husband and i treestand hunt here in western montana. i can't tell you where because i'd have to shoot you if i did.

season started here sept 7. first morning walking in the woods before daylight we heard a wolfpack on something. no hunting success for us that morning.

that afternoon curtis got a doe. the next afternoon after sitting in my stand over 2 hours, i stood to stretch. guess i made some kind of noise because i heard a long, low cat growl in a big brushy ditch about 3 yds from me. it was a mountain lion. i never saw him. i guess i had made a noise and he thought i was something really big towering over him. i will tell you this--i didn't blink my eyes again till my husband came to get me about 20 minutes later.

up to now. my husband and i have each gotten 2 does. we're still hunting. we love that venison and hardly ever eat beef any more.

whose story is next? i'll bet there are some big antler tales out there just waiting to be told.

life is good.
sandra

RE: Let's Here the Deer Stories...

Here is the story that you hate to tell. This morning at around 7:30 I had a HUGE 10 point walk right under my stand. I stood and came to full draw, the darn thing turned and came right back at me. He was at about 12 yards when I let it fly. He flattened out like he was hit by a truck and them cam to his feet and vanished. I started tracking him at 8:30, I could see my arrow stuck right in the ground where he was standing. At about 8:00 before I even got out of my stand a big Doe was standing right where the Buck was sniffing my arrow. Once i climbed out of the tree and retrieved my arrow I could see the it had passed through. (thankgoodness cause to see your arrow on the ground where a HUGE Buck was kinda makes you think you missed him)However it was a solid hit and looked like good blood. I first must say i have hunted in Michigan and Pennsylvania, this is the first time I have ever hunted in Kentucky. Man are the deer here TWICE as big as up north. This buck must have went ever bit of 250-280 on the hoof. We tracked him all day long until night fall and were unable to find him across a creek. We covered at least 10 miles and up until light vanished the last blood spot was only about the size of a pin head, up to this point it was dime size drops. We never bounced him up and he never bedded down. From the last point of blood we searched 3 hours in the area. Couldnot find another drop to tell us of his location. The land owner said that there are alot bigger ones there on his farm. He shot and 11 point and has found sheds that i have seen of 12's and a 14. We never found the deer. Amazing can shoot foam all day long but when a 10 point walks under you everything you have is shaking...

Well the weekend hunt is over and it was a success. All told I saw 16 does and harvest the next to largest one (~ 90 lbs field dressed). The largest one I saw was in the morning and I held out till the evening hopefully for a buck. The one I shot came in 10 minutes till dark and the shot was only about 7 yards. Hoyt VorTec Bow, CX300 arrows, Wasp 100 grain Hammer SST Broadheads, Copper John Sight, Trophy Taker Rest, and Carter Insatiable release.

this past week end to michigan. The sign was below average. and the 130 dollar tag made me convinced that iw as gonna shoot the firt descent buck. so i went to the same treee i sat in last year in this cut......the first morning i saw 2 bucks sparring and scraping but too small. that night i did not see anything. Then this morning i went in and aboutten minutes 3 different bucks came in before light (i had to wait till shooting time) and sparred and one trail my scent trail to the base of my tree. but before he spooked i arrowed a buck 4 yards from teh base of my tree. i wasn't sure how many points because i was focused ont eh shot. i arrowed him threw one lung the liver and out the bottom for a 100 yard blood trail. he is a main frram 8 with a 3 inch long sticker out he base of his left antler.

i was excited to see him. and i am glad i had the chance to harvest the first deer of the season( for me). thats it he might not be huge but i was proud of my harvest <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

I had a fine weekend. I completed my first ever spot and stalk on a whitetail. Saturday morning mike and I stand hunted with no luck, we got down and went to check another spot. We saw a doe and I put a stalk on her and shot her at 42 yds(that was as close as i could get with any cover) I got lung and heart and a complete pass through. I am completly confident in my equipment and after that their is not a hint of doubt. Bowtech Patriot 1 deer 0. LOL

RE: Let's Here the Deer Stories...

The first day I was able to get out I saw a small buck and 2 does going to my stand, however by 1000am I hadn't seen any from my stand. So took off and done some scouting in another area that has alot of deer. Went back at 430pm to the same morning stand and was just about to set down in my 16 ft ladder stand when I seen the fat doe on the trail out about 30 yards. She obviously hadn't seen nor heard me walk in and climb up the stand as she was feeding on acorns. My wife had informed me that we were just about out of venison and that a nice fat doe would work just fine. This year here in Ohio in our zone were allowed 3, so plenty of time to hunt for a nice buck. I nocked the Wasp/Hammer tipped CE 300, fired and made a good shot, total pass through and she only went about 40 yards and expired. I am hoping I will be able to report on a nice buck later.
