BOW SPEED
Actually in the world of Archery there are 4 Big and International Archery Federation, IBO, FITA, IFAA, ASA(this principally only in USA) all with very different rules about maximum speed.
With the IBO 280 fps or 5grs/lbs the average is good, but some people with long draw lenght and very strong are advantaged due to small shooter with short DL. (during last World FITA 3DI some people had shooted with 330 fps and some 280, 50 fps are already toomuch. IFAA had ruled maximum 300 fps speed, stop. FITA in tournament rule has 60 lbs and no max speed. ASA had 280 fps, stop. It is already a dream that all the Federation, about speed, will made one only rule? |
RE: BOW SPEED
Speed is worth a line, thats about it.
The winner in the 3-DI World's was shooting 282fps. 5 grns per pound provides for safe equipment standards and allows for continued equipment development.. Equipment today is much stronger and more durable than it has ever been, allowing that equipment to be more forgiving and accurate than ever before. To limit performance will guarantee a different color of bow every year instead of a new cam, limb or riser design. ken12 |
RE: BOW SPEED
I'ts real, Gomez is a Champ and he had won with 282 fps, but 2°,3°,4°to 8° shoot all over 310 fps.
Probably some shooter can win and/or loose because speed is more important than shooter's quality. With a max speed already the same, who wim will be surely the best shooter... |
RE: BOW SPEED
find someone shooting 330fps, and one shooting 280. have both shooters shoot at a spot at 40 yards. then have them take 4 steps back and shoot the same spot without moving the site. 40 plus yards is where speed can help, but is doesnt really have a profound effect as one would think. being able to shoot your bow coupled with the ability to judge yardage is much better than the speed. even with speed, you still have to be able to hit the spot....

RE: BOW SPEED
Well put Keith, If a guy misses shooting at 330 fps, it will be a faster miss though. I can get my bow well over 300 fps, however choose to stay around the mid 280 mark. I like a heavier more controlled arrow myself.
