Here's a shot of a water fountain at one of the nearby parks, not 10 minutes from my house. i brought my Nikon D3500 with me on a tripod, and used the "kit" lens, the original 18-55mm small zoom. I slowed the shutter down to 1/8 and carefully took this photo.

Nikon D3500 DSLR, AF-P DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens, zoomed to 55mm, f/16 aperture and 1/8 shutter.

To get the most out of the cameras it was necessary to have a good tripods...
This is one of the best things to put money into. Tripods may not be glamorous but a good one will make a big difference in your pictures and last a long time. I bought a Bogen "3001" back in 1988 and it has gotten a lot of use over those years. Now my daughter uses it, which makes me very happy to see.

At first she tried "popularly priced" tripods and was having trouble with vibration. Now there is a selection of different Manfrotto legs and heads here, and the vibration issues have largely gone away. Good tripods also help significantly with using a spotting scope.

Then use a camera, not a phone.

In order to forget about the election for a little while, I decided it would be a good time to go for a night flight.
