New Mod in Town

For those of you that haven't heard, hardcastonly is now a Supermod. Congratulations and well done!! :groupwave:

Hopefully some of the oldtimers are gentle at first. They can get kind of ornery at times.

Congratulations Hardcastonly. I hope you have as much fun with being a mod as I did. I learned a lot from CalHunter and imagine you will too. New blood in any job is always a good thing.

It really does help. You get a new perspective and maybe change how things are done for the better.

What does it matter? This place is done like dinner. Stick a fork in it. What's funny is, I'll probably get banned for saying it! LOL! It sucks so bad that this place is what it is and not what it was.

I'm not sure what you think is a ban-able offense there.

Careful or people will think you're volunteering. If you are, shoot me a PM. If not, now would be a good time to disavow any knowledge of the above statement. :D

What???? You mean you're not propping it up with all of this excellent research and on topic points? Because of you, I'm probably gonna have to subscribe online to the WSJ because links to their articles have that login or join screen before you can read anything. :D

Apparently a moderator cannot be kept on anyone's ignore list, so there is that advantage for anyone aspiring to volunteer for the job.

True story...but with civil discourse the need for ignore is not needed.

Unfortunately, it works both ways. :s3:

Ouch! It must be painful sometimes to not be able to occasionally tune out the drivel.

CalHunter 02-18-2019 08:28 AM

Aside from the business need for mods to read the posts, we would also get cc'd with an email of any complaint filed, not to mention many of us receive a decent amount of PMs asking us to correct the situation(s). Not everybody feels comfortable filing a complaint ticket and so they often just PM a mod they know or are comfortable with to see if the situation can get fixed with the least amount of fuss. It's a lot of work but the end result is the flame-war gets puty out and people can post again without having to risk getting caught up or marginalized from somebody else's flame-war.

When it gets especially bad and starts to bother...one choice is to take a few days off. The job is strictly volunteer with no restrictions on minimum mod time....or at least that was the way it worked when I served.
