When I hunted in the hill country we did the same thing. We would stay put at night. Driving in you would count the dead deer by the mile and a lot of time I would count up to ten within a mile.

Man, that reminds me of most of Wisconsin before the wolf population exploded, the turkeys moved in, and the whole earn-a-buck got overused by the DNR.

I used to have a weekly deer kill count in the two mile stretch from my parents place and the edge of the city over the summer. We averaged just over 1.5 deer a week for two years running in the really high population days.
