Last Saturday morning while travelling to our fishing hole there were turkeys in many of the fields, most fields had 20 - 25 birds and with 4-5 gobblers in full strut!

Yeah baby - they're definitely peaking right now. I've heard and seen quite a few good toms. They all looked (and sounded) absolutely delicious.
Can't wait until next Saturday. |

RE: Pa gobblers very active
The weather has taken a diffent change of direction. Therefoe the birds have calmed down. But today i did catch 7 in the power line. No matter what call i threw at em the did not respond well. Atleast i am seeing them i was worried . I didnt see any birds for 3 days. Has anyone else seen a change in turkey habits with the change in weather?

RE: Pa gobblers very active
Just a word of advice, i wouldn't call to the birds as much as you are. You are educatiing them with every call, especially if they come in and don't find a hen and you get busted by them. But good luck saturday.

RE: Pa gobblers very active
well, I wen't out Saturday and had three gobblers around me. The closest one started heading away as i could hear him getting quieter so I started calling. he turned and headed right back toward me. I don't know what spooked him but I only caught a quick glimpse of him around 40 yards and never saw him again. I was kinda bummed but it sure was fun calling him in.;)

Saturday -nothing rained heavy
Monday mornin- No sooner i put my decoy in the ground i heard a hen bleepin down the hill from me. I got to me spot and was there a few minutes when the hen came into the feild. She walked right to the decoy. then another hen approached. After a few yulps the hen walk into the woods. I called a few times and across the field a gobble rang out. The hen came back into the field to be joined by the gobbler. Never got a shot. they were to far away. the gobbler was interested , but i guess not enough. I went up the hill after they disappeared. At one piont i had 2 gobblers going .A big guy got within 40-50 yards but was distracted by real hens. I finally had enough when they headed the other direction. Will try again tom morning... |
