Ma Jay and rybohunter pretty well sum it up.
Keep in mind if you are going to buy a pair they come in diffrent weights. If you mostly will use them in the summer you'll want a lighter pair then if you're steelhead finshing in up state NY durring January.

is the 3.5 MM enough for winter fishing??

It looks like the standard thickness.

Also, would it behoove a guy to buy the 3.5 MM pair for $75 dollars or the 3.5MM pair for $40??

I need a pair, too.

Neoprenes are waterproof but HOT!!!

I'll be using my breathable waders. Greatest thing to come along since waders were invented!!! When the waters cold, you simply dress warm under em but when its hot out, they're still comfortable!

I'm on board with BTBowhunter... Neoprene waders are very hot... Not sure what you plan on using them for but both Simms and Orvis make top end breathable waders ($ 400- $ 500) as well as lower priced models ( $ 100 - $ 150) that work great in the summer and layered up underneath in the winter.

If you are only going to use them in the winter, Neoprene will be fine. But if you are going to use them in warmer weather; and need to walk any kind of distance to get to the water; you will really want the water to be cold once you get there.

Good luck.
