Massachusetts
So, How did all of my MA hunting counterparts make out this season? Any luck since the last posts last month?

RE: Massachusetts
Well aside from Massseawolves record and law breaking year of 3 bucks in Ma I haven't heard much else.
Most everyone I know got deer in N.H. and M.E. just north of you. There weren't a ton of deer around but it seems everyone got quality opportunities and scored. |
RE: Massachusetts
I HAD A BAD YEAR SEEN ONE BIG BUCK OUT OF BOW RANGE,, BUT THATS WHAT HUNTINGS ALL ABOUT NOBODY SAID ITS EASY , BUT I HAVE A CHANCE TO SCORE ON THE NANTUCKET HUNT IN FEB. THEY SAY 40 TO 60 DEER PER SQ.MILE YOU CAN TAKE UP TO 5 DOE AND 1 BUCK . IWAS TALKING TOA GUY ON THE ISLAND AND HE SEEN SOME DEER STILL WITH THEIR ANTLERS, BUT ITS A HARD ISLAND TO HUNT DO TO THE THICK SCRUB OAKS , ILL KEPT YOU UPDATED ON HOW I DO WHEN I COME BACK THE10TH.

RE: Massachusetts
Had a pretty good season, nice 7 pt. during bow, filled a doe tag during shotgun, and shot a 6 pt. during shotgun also, that meat should hold us out until spring.............along with the two antelope I got in MT, maybe until summer.

RE: Massachusetts
I took a 4 pointer w/ the shotgun opening day after giving a doe a haircut. I didn't get anything w/ the bow or the muzzleloader.
I took a doe in IL w/ the bow too. |

RE: Massachusetts
Not too big a family...me, the wife, and two little ones. Once the deer go down we don't buy any cow from the store, I utilize everything I can from the deer, cut them all up myself. Grind the scraps into burger, etc., we love venison and any other meat from the land.
I also give an amount about equal to one deer away to the two landowners I hunt on and friends that request meat, so nothing goes to waste. |
RE: Massachusetts
How dare you MA ers post here, don't you know this is a PA/NY forum!!!!!!!!
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D How is the huntin' in MA? Don't here much about it (that can be good or bad). |
RE: Massachusetts
Personally, I feel the hunting here in Western MA is going down hill. The kill is down quite a bit out this way. The Central and Eastern part of the state are making up for our down numbers. I just remember seeing many more deer in seasons past. Maybe next year will be a different story.

RE: Massachusetts
I got 2 does this year in Central Mass and over the border in Thompson,CT....saw alot of deer this year......4 of my buddy's got a deer too ......
|
RE: Massachusetts
Good looking doe blackeye. That's all I saw during CT bow... a few does... couldn't get a shot at any of them. 7 of the 8 deer I saw in Berkshire County during bow were does. No shot opportunities.
Rough.... |
RE: Massachusetts
Passed on a couple of does with the bow. Took a big spike with ML in NH (dressed 160 lbs.), played tag with a couple of rack bucks during ML in MA but no shots.

RE: Massachusetts
Doughboy, seeing that I grew up in Midwest and have hunted other states I think I have something to compare the hunting in Mass. to. To be honest, the eastern part of the state....if you can find a nice piece or two of property to hunt and put your homework in, it's really not bad. It's not like a Midwestern state, but the terrain and densities aren't either. The first few years I hunted it was tough, but once I got the deer movements under control and changed my hunting strategies to hunting woodland deer the tags started getting punched again.
The quality of bucks can be good also if a guy is willing to pass up the spikes every now and then, there have been some absolute monsters shot in the eastern part for quite a few years now..........but we're trying to keep that quiet. |
RE: Massachusetts
I had my worst year ever in MA deer wise, although I hunted a tough zone for density (Zone 2)
I think western MA got hit hard the past few years w/ snow and thats part of the decline. Doe permits could be lessened in Zones 1-4n & 4S in my opinion. The good thing about MA is that now the central and eastern part of the state is picking up where the western part is dropping off. This in turn is also spreading the pressure so its less intense than it used ot be out in western MA. |
RE: Massachusetts

RE: Massachusetts
There seemed to be plenty of sign in SE. Mass this year, and the owner of the place that I hunt brought in a real nice shed antler from her yard for me. Oh, well...better luck next year. DL
