Black Bear Tips
Hey. I've got a chance to hunt, maybe hunt, black bears this year. My uncle and I have been asked if we would be interested in going up north near Malone, NY, to take out a couple of problem bears. I guess they have been getting into the camps in the area and making a mess. Sounds easy, sit by the camp and wait for the bear. Something tells me that it would never work out that well though.
How do you hunt bears? I know how to hunt deer, are the two similar at all? I've never even seen a bear in the wild. I know they are out there though, my Mother saw one walking up my driveway a few months ago, about 10 minutes before I got home from work. Thanks; I'll take good luck over skill any day! |
RE: Black Bear Tips
Well, like deer hunting, scouting pays off big dividends. If your not in bear territory, you won't see bears so early scouting trips are necessary. Once you identify bear sign, tracks, scat etc...you have bears. In PA, baiting of course is illegal so there are just a couple legal ways to hunt them. You can sit on stand and hope a bear comes by, you can team up with a gang and drive bears the same way you'd drive deer and you can still hunt your way around the woods hoping to come across a bear. That's it in a nut shell. IF you've done your homework, you might get lucky.
