BC then how come our firearms guy tells people who move here from out of state they do not need to register their long guns and they only need a card to purchase new guns?
John, that is correct. Registering guns is up to the municipality, there is no state law requiring registration. The firearms ID card is not a form of registering guns, but registering gun owners. You get the card once (get registered once), then can buy long guns without further permits. For handguns, you need a seperate permit,... and finger prints,... eye scan,.... body cavity search,... psychological exam,.... and small pox vaccination.... At least it seems that way. Is there any place in this country worse than NJ???

While hunting or while traveling to hunt you do not need a firearms ID card.

the problem is that no matter what you do in this state your gonna be wrong. its you against the state. if you have to defend yourself i think Nappens (the famous gun lawyer) minimum is like 10 grand on these kinda problems so i wouldnt want to be caught without my card.i think the local and state law enforcement are not up to speed on the gun laws and it becomes what they think and not the law. at least we arent as bad as massachusetts[:'(]

Welcome to the People's Republic of New Jersey. This is the state that has outlawed such historic rifles and the M1 carbine and the AK's even though the federal assault weapons ban is no more. You can buy them in every other state but the PRNJ.

Thanks for the info. Check out the following link for the specifics. Looks like the hunting license allows travel to and from the site. Follow this link: http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/StateLaws.aspx?ST=NJ

Look under possession, halfway down, number 4....

Will be taking my Viszla pup out on Monday. he needs to point something else otehr than the finches on my bird feeder... Heading to PA this weekend for the last days of Muzzleloader.

Thanks for your responses!

Mike
