PA - Next Year, Internet for Reporting Deer and Turkey

Cool. My first thought was check stations like NJ.

GAME COMMISSION HAILS ENACTMENT OF HOUSE BILL 2326
Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Vern Ross today offered his praise to Governor Edward G. Rendell and members of the General Assembly for approving legislation that will pave the way for the agency to improve its harvest reporting system for hunters.

Gov. Rendell today signed into law House Bill 2326, sponsored by Rep. Keith Gillespie (R-York). The new law amends the Game and Wildlife Code (Title 34) to enable the Game Commission to establish the method of reporting deer and turkey harvests.

"By signing this bill today, Gov. Rendell and state lawmakers have cleared the way for all harvest reporting information to be submitted online via the Internet or by calling a toll-free telephone number, as well as by mail for those hunters without access to a computer or telephone," Ross said. "The Game Commission looks forward to being able to offer hunters a more convenient method of reporting deer and turkey harvests by the 2005-2006 license year. However, for the remainder of the 2004-2005 license year, we urge hunters to complete and mail in their harvest report cards within 10 days of their harvest."

I like it. The convenience of it is sure to attract more people than the harvest report card system. Can't wait.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

personally don't see how it can get much easier than a check box and a couple of questions on the report card and drop it in the mail. Internet is easy, but it will actually take me longer to do it that way with the startup computer, connect via phone line, connect to F&G sight, browse to right page, fill out, hit submit.

Gotta agree with Bob H--what could possibly be easier than a postage-page card that's supplied with your license?Fill it out and put in your mailbox or drop off at the mailbox that sits on practically every street corner.

I also saves the F&G some postage.

Maryland is also going to "online checking" next year. I still plan to check mine in using the stations. They weigh it for you, give you a hard copy of the possession tag, punch your tag and then you get to compare your deer to the others.

Does this bill say what will happen if you don't report your deer/turkey harvests? How are they going to know? No way to enforce it if you ask me.

every tag issued should have to be called in and accounted for or you get a citation in the mail. plain and simple.

current regulations state that the report card must be filled out and submitted within 10 days of the harvest of a big game species... Acording to the law, if this card is not submitted properly within the specified 10 days and/or is not completed, the license holder could face up to a $25 dollar fine........

My question is... who has ever forgot to send in a card and/or has sent it in late? Any repurcussions? In my eyes, late is better than never, but hey, I'm not the law.

Internet reporting would be very convenient in my eyes. I like the idea, as I spend over 10+ hours a day sitting in front of the computer screen at work. :D
