Looking for Shotgun Scope Info
 

I've always either used buckshot or used a slug barrel with the open sites. Well i'm purchasing a slug barrel with scope mounts for another one of my guns. I never have had a scope on a shotgun. I'm looking for a good, not overly expensive scope. Also, what is the best size of the scope to get...4x, 1.5-5x, etc. What about the "field of view"?

I would really appreciate any info and help i can get.

You don't need much magnification with a slug gun. 4x should be more than enough. The big thing is eye relief. Get as much eye relief as you can. Red dot scopes also work great for shotguns.

Take a look at the Nikon Prostaff (for shotguns). It comes in a 2-7 power. I purchased one for my shotgun this year. I am pleased with it. In fact, I took a buck yesterday afternoon and it worked well and had a good, clear view in the lower light conditions I was hunting in. It also had a reasonable price.

On one of my guns I have a bushnell 1 1/2x - 4 1/2x variable. no complaints.

I have the Bushnell Trophy scope on my 2 on my shotguns 1.5-5, I dont use them anymore, but they are good for the money, my friend has the same scope on his shotgun but in 3-9x40

Swift makes good scopes that are lifetime warrenty and are pretty tough. I have a 4X32 on my Mossberg 695 and have had no problems making up close or 100 yrd shots with it.
You really cant go wrong with Swift, inexpensive and good qaulity. Just be sure you dont buy cheap rings and bases for whatever scope you use. Slug guns scope are hell on recoil to the bases and rings. You'll know because you have a shot string in a line if the rings are loose and the scope will have scratches on the tube where it mounts inside the rings.

Another vote for bushnell. I have a Trophy 1.5-5 on my browning slug gun and its great. Took a buck with it last weekend. It also takes recoil very well from my 3" slugs.

I put a Burris 3-9x40mm on my 12 ga. Love the clarity...but after this last weekend, wish I had opted for the Bushnell 2-7x32mm Elite 3200 with Rainguard. Rain in November isn't that great (usually snow), but I also plan on using this in May for turks, and the rainguard would be nice.

I would suggest a B-Square mount and Burris Signature rings, will run ~$60.
