RE: NY opener anyone score?
didnt score but shot a small 6 which was a perfect shot through the vitals it took off running and another hunter shot it 2 more time with less than a minute of when i shot and said it was his kill even when i said you can clearly see my shot was perfect and it was going to be dead within seconds but he shot it in the guts and ass end so i said go ahead and take im here to hunt not argue and ive seen plenty bigger than this little guy.

RE: NY opener anyone score?
Would have got a 160 class ten pointer if my party would learn how to shoot. 40 yards away from all of the them and nobody even came close. I never had a chance at him my self, I usually do the dog work in the brush, but I guess is alright at least my father got a crack at him, he's older and dosen't get out much, probably made his season, nobody shot him on the property across the street, but they did see him thou. Back to the grindstone tommorrow. good luck boys and gals.

RE: NY opener anyone score?
Had a nice opener.
Got in my stand good hour before sunrise. Bad thing was when I got to the ladder...I turned around at some shuffling leaves...you know the sound. My mini light revealed two set of eyes, and I could hear one already running away. Only 20 yards away. So I hurried up the ladder, and stayed still. Im sure as you all know there is that time where you can just barely make out movement as shadows, just before sunrise. Well I could see them working their way back across my shooting lane heading to their bedding area. Heard alot of shots, and saw no movement. Got to daydreaming a bit as one does time to time, and a small buck came in on the lane, but I did not react fast enough to take the only shot he presented me with. Won't do that again for a while. Nothing came about until sunset, and had 7 does single file come into the woodlot, and went through my lane. I had enough time to see them all and pick out the biggest. She was third in line, and the first two were most definitly yearlings, and possibly button bucks. She ran for 200 yards, and had to track her. She lost alot of blood and was easy to track until she hit the harvested corn field. It had just been turned over. She was merely lying in an adjacent field, but had a 10 yd wide hedgerow in between. Boy that confused me. I just happened to guess to check it out and there she was. The field took up some water, which is what gave me the hard time tracking her, the blood would run downhill a bit throwing me off from her path. Darkness fell by the time I got back to the road. Took forever to get her out. Had to get the wheeler out with an uncle, and we ended up rolling it with us and the deer on it. I am fairly sore, but the wheeler fell on to the ankle of my uncle. It is fairly swollen, but not broken. Finally got her to the house, and gutted her (coyotes were yipping in the distance, so I wasnt going to stay there long...just get the deer and gut her at home:D) |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
Yea, it took a couple of days of scouting, but I got a decent 5 pointer on the 18th[not hole,-Nov.-I`m not like NYBH].I`ve seen more deer this year than I ever have up there. Those bucks are really chaseing hard.I`ve seen 2 monsters killed[10 pointers] within a week, both chaseing does.
My buddy told me his friend killed a nice 8,fighting with 2 other bucks last week in the Malone area. There has been alot of kills, and shots. And to think the majority of the locals start hunting Thanksgiving weekend til close. This has been the first year that I`ve hunted there with no snow on the ground,I`ts been unseasonally warm this year.So I`m starting to get geared up to shoot a couple dogs for the buck week of Dec.6th down here in the Jersey pines.Good Luck to everyone and Be Safe!!! |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
I had been scouting a nice buck all week and i knew i would have a shot in the afternoon at it. So after helping a guy load a doe into his truck i get to my stand and bang, bang ! The guy i just helped was inside filling out the managment tag and saw my buck out the window he went out shot once it didnt move shot again and down 7ptr 100 yards from me! so pissed. First two days i saw 12 deer 2 of which were spikes. One spike i think was piebald...its legs were almost all white it was wierd looking...but no spikes where i hunt. Guy also saw a wild boar on the land I Hunt. Very interesting 2 days

RE: NY opener anyone score?
You should report him. In NY it is only one deer per day. Then after the first deer, it is considered poaching.

ORIGINAL: JoeinNY You should report him. In NY it is only one deer per day. Then after the first deer, it is considered poaching. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Our group of 8 saw several bucks - and harvested two. One a 155lb 6 point the other a 115 lb 6 point on opening day. It really was a nice day - I didn't take or even see a buck this year on the opener this year. I'll look forward to some snow on the ground by the weekend!!!! |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
We hunted in 8Y Chumung Co. we didnt hear much shooting. I saw a buck heading my way nothin big, then he made a left well over 120yds in the woods, walked over onto someones property they took him out. My friend got caught in the stand by a nice 8 pointer, and a spike no shot, we saw about 17 does.....no one got nothin

RE: NY opener anyone score?
ORIGINAL: JoeinNY You should report him. In NY it is only one deer per day. Then after the first deer, it is considered poaching. definitely NOT TRUE. if you have 10 tags - you can shoot 10 deer in one day if you are so inclined. this is the kind of misinformation that hurts novice hunters. please get your facts straight before you give advice (especially on this type of info). as far as my week of hunting it was unproductive - saw a 4 pt chasing a doe on monday (too far/thick for a shot); saw several more doe on mon./tues. - probably 15 all together; i hunt 7M so we can't shoot doe this year (bummer); wed. sucked - rain most of the day; poured thurs. - didn't even hunt; nice day fri - snow, no deer; nice day sat. - no deer (snow gone); poured sun. - came home from camp seems like the deer "shut down" after first 2 days. however we did see some tracks friday & saturday. I know there are some nice buck in the area (have seen the 4, a 6 , and three 8s). i just hope that some made it thru the opening week. |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
I too have noticed the typical shutdown after opening day. Havent seen a thing since taking a doe on opening evening.
The numbers of hunters in the woods fall starting tomorrow and continue on til the season ends, so hopefully it will help the deer move a bit more. They are out there, just have to keep at it.:D |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
I killed a 4 ptr at 7:15 am and then a doe at 7:40 am...............then I got down because I was out of tags :(
While I was field dressing my deer my brother killed a nice doe. I also took another doe last friday at 4:35 pm |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
Our camp of 12 guys didn't do so well, accept for one guy. We pulled a nice 12pt and fork horn.
Story about the 12 pt: My uncle who does not worry about scent at all happened to be in the right stand that morning. There wasn't to much action going on the Monday openner. Very few shots. Well nature called at around 10:30 and my uncle climbed down the stand walked 30 yards and did his business(#2). Got back into his stand lit up a cig and not 2 minutes later heard something running his way. So he put down his cig picked up the gun and saw a doe run up at 20 yard. now my uncle never passes up a nice doe at 20 yards but saw that it was looking back at something and decide not to take the shot. And sure enough trailing in hot pursuit was a big 12 pt. As he was running up on the doe the buck stopped and looked down at the package my uncle dropped then pick his head up and looked right at him. Too late POW, POW. My uncle layed some lead into his heart and lungs. Buck almost dropped right there. needless to say my uncle was a very happy man. |
RE: NY opener anyone score?
I goy a fat 4 pont on Monday morning bout 11:00. Came in to them new fangled rut sticks you burn like insence. He came in upwind & I thought it was a doe. As he was leaving I saw the antlers & almost cried but he circled around & winded the stick & came right in. Crappy rack but he dressed out at 170#. That was in Washington county unit 5P.
Sorry no pics. |
