My CT 8 Point. (PIC)
![]() Well I found this deer about 3 weeks ago while scouting some public land with a friend. I actually had 2 deer about the same size about 10 miles from each other. With no acons it made it a little easier to see what they were doing....go figure.;) Both bucks were in the thickest parts of the woods. The only thing I saw that weekend was a small bear and some nice tracks.:D I marked the spots on my GPS and went home. I couldn't leave VT until monday night because my son who is 8 years old got his first deer Sunday night on VT youth weekend.:) I got to my stand tuesday morning before daylight using my GPS. Around 7:00 a deer started blowing. Well it was another hunter just getting into his stand. Turns out to be 2 hunters and the wind was at the deer. I stayed untill 9:00 and decided to check out the other spot for that night. I walked to the place I had marked 3 weeks ago and saw that the buck was still in the area. I cut his track in the frost so I put my climber up and sat that night. He was a morning buck and his track wasn't very old so I didn't think we would hookup. I was right. The next morning I got in before light and around 7:15 I saw legs and half his body comming. At 75 yds he turned and went up the hill out of sight. HUGE!!! I still never saw his head!!!! I knew he was over 200lbs. I sat back down knowing he was going to the other side and I saw sign there of him 3 weeks ago. I got down at 10:00 and moved over to the other side and sat that night. I also went to dicks that day and got some Doc's doe sent and buck sent. On my way out I found a fresh scrap about 75 yds from my tree. I saw his tracks in it so I used the Doc's on it. I put the tursal gland on the leaves beside it and went back and moved the stand 25yds closer. The next morning I got in my stand and was hoping he stayed on that side. Around 7:00 I stood up knowing he moves around then. ;)At 7:20 out from under some hemlocks he stood. All I could say was HOLY SH..... He stood behind some mountain lorials at 25yds. He started moving to the scrap and through the opening to fast. At full draw he stopped behind some more trash.:( He then started to do a nose curl and rake the trees. He took another step and raked another shrub than made a scrap. I had to let down. I looked ahead to find another opening. I ranged a tree at 30 yrds. I looked back at him and he was still pawing. He was pissed at the sent I put down. He did another nose curl and started walking to the scrap. When he got to the opening behind the tree I let the arrow fly. It was about 38 yds and it went just in front of the hip and lodged in the front sholder. I was shaking after the shot, but calm before. I sat there for awhile and thought about what had just happened. I left the deer and went back to my truck to call my dad. I went back a couple hours later with a friend and found the biggest buck I have ever arrowed lying 150yds from where I shot him. I can't explain the feelings I had but they were all good.:) He ended up being 8 points and 225lbs. THANKS, G |

Big G,
Nice buck. Looks like a hog. I do some fishing in Farmington, but hunt mainly in zones 4a & 4b. Whereabout in Windsor, if you don't mind me asking? I don't want to be surprised by a black bear anytime soon [8D]. If you like public lands, you may want to check out a few areas near me...they are drastically underutilized during the bowhunting seasons. Drop me an email for more info... S&R |
