NJ Hunting Rule
1. Is a non-licensed person (wearing required orange and no gun/bow) allowed to go hunting with a licensed person?
1a. Are they allowed to participate (ie, calling turkeys, calling squirrels, calling crow, etc.)? 1b. Are they allowed to "walk" with you to your spot and sit with you? (and zero participation...no calling). I did not find this in the digest. However, I am gonna look again. Thanks. |
RE: NJ Hunting Rule
I have brought my children hunting with me for years. They wore fl. orange for their saftey since a non hunter can walk and do what they please on public land , although I wouldn't recomend it. They did not carry a gun there for they weren't hunting. Nor would they be allowed to shoot a gun except at the range. As far as calling and ingaging in the actul hunt , I recommend calling your N.Div . office before taking a chance. Since that would be actually participating in the attempt to take game. I'm sure they can watch just not participate. Besides, the law states 10 and over so let them take the test and get a license.:) If they are less than 10 then they are probably exempt. No harm in calling first.

RE: NJ Hunting Rule
As always, call the numbers for Law Enforcement in front of the digest.
As far as I know, yes and yes. I have been taking my unlicensed sons hunting since they could walk. |
RE: NJ Hunting Rule
I always take my kids hunting as my father did with me

RE: NJ Hunting Rule
I agree, the state can not stop anyone from entering the woods ( private or public ) and sit down with a hunter and watch the action. as far calling, thats a good question, and I would call the NJF&W Law Enforcement Dept.

RE: NJ Hunting Rule
The act of hunting requires either a knocked arrow or a loaded firearm, therefore, if the unlicensed person(s) you are refering to do not have one of the above, they would be ok.
But as JBC says, check with Law Enforcement first. |
RE: NJ Hunting Rule
I called. Everything is fine (deer, turkey, crow, etc.) as long as
the non-licensed person does NOT have a gun or bow. Hunter orange is suggested. Actually, the law enforcement officer on the phone encourages taking people with you in the woods to see what hunting is like. Get more people involved with the sport and away from Playstation. Be safe. |
