MD bear hunt applications
Details for the bear hunt lottery have been posted on the DNR website. You can apply for permits from 9/7-9/21 and the drawing will be held 9/22. Here is the link to the story.

Im from New Jersey, and the way they do the permit for bear here is a better system then in your state. Here if more then 10,000 people apply, then they have a lottery, if less then 10,000 then we all get a permit, after you take a 3 or 4 hour seminar class. There is no special treatment for those on private land like in your state, and I think thats just wrong to give private land hunters speacial treatment. Do they pay more for a license then you do, or do you both pay the same? To me thats bias, what is the state of Marylands reason for allowing private land hunters more permits then public land hunters? Wish you all the very best of luck & be safe.

I think the reason they are giving more permits for private land is because thats where our bear problem lies. The public tracts in that portion of the state are very large forests, where bear vs. human encounters are low. The season is only targeting 30 bears, only 200 permits will be issued, that is why it will be hard to get a permit with such a limited drawing.
