Shotgun during the winter bow season
I must be out of my mind. How can I be sitting in a tree with a bow when I have guys on the next property pounding with 12ga. shotguns? The deer I saw tonight were so scared, I kinda felt sorry for them. Its gonna be tough drawing on deer that are this wired. Oh well, NJ wants deer killed, well I guess their getting their wish.

RE: Shotgun during the winter bow season
My father has property in in zone 51, around 500 acres the guy next to him has about 25 acres. On the 25 acres they killed over 60 deer in 2 years between 2 guys they give them away to anyone they just like killing deer. Its a shame that NJ is doing this there were no deer at all on my dads property this year and it usually full of deer. Pretty much ruined it for hunting this year.

RE: Shotgun during the winter bow season
Sounds like you need to create some escape cover on your 500. Someplace the deer can get to when the neighbors start pounding away with the shotguns. Then you'll have your pick when the guns start goin off

RE: Shotgun during the winter bow season
I was hunting a new spot about 1/2 mile from Assunpink. 11 baldies came running in after a bunch of shots from an adjoining property.

BTBowhunter I am talking about taking a 40 deer per square mile area and turning it into a 10 deer per square mile over the last 2 years. I dont care to take part in deer pounding.

I think you'll know when the white one gets it. You won't believe how many different places I've heard about the big 10 they got gun season. Did you hear of anyone killing two 10pts. on the second day of gun somewhere off 537, somewhere near the camp? I saw a picture of the deer, they were beautiful, but I'm not convinced they were taken around here. I just got that feeling when the guy showed me the pics and said they were taken right around the corner.

RE: Shotgun during the winter bow season
I feel for anyone trying to bowhunt now. Is the state intent on ruining the deer hunting experience in NJ? We have guys shooting as many deer as possible in ZOne 2 and then giving them away as well. One guy has already shot 2 buttons and we are about ready to toss him from the club!
Did I mention that we tried doing our own QDM in ZOne 2 but some guys just couldnt deal with it? THese were guys that are between 50 and 60 yrs of age that have probably killed 50 deer a piece! That's the mentality and this is what the state is dishing up for those hunters. Looking at the world from 15 feet up. |
RE: Shotgun during the winter bow season
It makes no sense Mid...I miss the old days when you could bow hunt the winter season and have "relaxed" deer walk under the stand.. Now, you need a spot far in the woods where no hunter has been..Too bad theres no place like that here...

Bigmills
Didn't mean you should "pound the deer" but with 500 acres maybe you could make your ground more attractive with food and cover plantings etc. so they don't all cross over to that 25 to get pounded. there must be something on that 25 pulling em in for your neighbors to kill that many. |
RE: Shotgun during the winter bow season
Hey guys, how about you provide your input on the deer hunting at the Federation meetings? The Monmouth Federation meets every third Thursday 8pm at the Freehold Fur Feather club house. Give your input, we run an informal meeting any any input is welcome. We have input from various clubs, ones that have been around a long time, and clubs that are newer. We also have some individual members that are not part of any hunting club. We need more independant voices.
I can tell you honestly that there has been NO discussion of QDM at our meetings. Everyone is happy just to get a chance at getting some deer. We have representatives from the following clubs, so if your club is not represented, PLEASE PLEASE attend, even for a little while! Freehold Fur Fin and Feather Turkey Swamp Rod and Gun South Orange Rod & Gun Sunrise Rod & Gun Trout Unlimited All Around Sportsmen Shore Wildlife Monmouth County Rifle & Pistol NJ Trappers Association, Haystack Rod & Gun Seneca Rod & Gun We DON'T have members from Cross Pile Asbury Park Fishing Club Any fishing club other than Trout Unlimited. I'm the Secretary of the Monmouth Federation, and the executive members are looking for more people to attend our meetings, not to shake you down for money, but to provide input and to help spread the word about issues affecting us in the Monmouth County area. You can contact me at work 732 949 8906 or at home at 732 866 9496, or [email protected] Meeting is at Freehold Fur, Fin and Feather, 8pm every third Thursday, on Burke Road, Freehold. We really need your input. <BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
No didn't hear of that either. It was quiet around the camp both days other than cross pile. I did hear of a nice 10 coming out of TS off Ely Harmony by Hendrickson rd on opening day. I bet they came from else where too. You are right about the white one. Boy if he makes it he'll be awesome next year. We should get together for coffee and swap some stories. You might even know my hunting partner Matt Trembow he is a Manlapan Police officer. Talk to you soon.

|
