Yputh Opener!!!

Who is all going out on saturday for the youth turkey hunt?

I am headed out for the hunt somewhere in westmoreland county most likely , im looking forward to gettin a bird since there will not be as much pressure on them , although i feel there would be an even better shot of tagging one if we had say 3 days to hunt ( friday , sat and sun) but we dont hunt here on sunday for osme reason , but i was just wondering who else is going , or possibly taking a younger person out.

Well i found a jake and a gobbler friday night , watched them dissapprear into a thicket taht is also like an island in the middle of a field , then today i setup where they usually come to , nothing until about 8 then i saw a hen coming out , about 30 minutes later i saw a first gobbler , then a second , then a 2nd hen , then a third gobbler , they stayed out about 100 yads or so , and didnt gobble , strut or do nething but feed , they then returned to the brushy hill in the center , and thats where they stayed ....

Do you guys think i should move my setup to the other side of the field , where the brush is in the center , or try to call em across a 200 yard field???

the only problem is , sometimes first morning i see them where i was today , and then wheni go there , they go by my other blind .... WHO SAYS TURKEYARENT SMART!!!

I took my cousin out this morning. We heard about a dozen gobblers, most of which had hens. We were around birds all morning and i finially managed to get one in at 15 yards for him to take. It was his first spring gobbler, it had a 8 7/8 beard 1/2'' spurs and it weighted 18 3/4 pounds. Not bad for his first gobbler. It was a pleasure to see how much joy it brought to him.

I took my 12yr old son out on his 1st Turkey hunt. It was very exciting. We had some gobbling on the roost, made our way to setup, and jumped a bunch of deer in the woods. The Turkeys musta got nervous after that racket! Once on ground they wouldn't come in any closer then 40yds. 1 was a decent full tom, 2 others were jakes. I told my son were keeping the shot under 30yds with his 20ga. The toms gobbled alot. The adult, and 1 jake were spittin & drummin putting on a good show. I was watching my son, and his gun barrel was shaking up & down like crazy. I could hear him taking deep breaths trying to calm down. I wanted to laugh. I had big ol' grin under my mask. He moved around some, and think that also prevented the toms from coming closer. I'm sure at least 1 saw his movements. It was a great learning experience for him. He can't wait to go out again in the morning!
