Good area?

My friend is moving to Boston this summer so i just have to ask if that state (i cant remember what state its in right now) any good for hunting? Just asking because if i were to visit her and stayed long enough, maybe i could get a non-resident license and try my luck.

[:'(]No such luck Hawk.Boston ,or sounds like Baasten,is in the state of Massachusetts.Only things to hunt there is a parking spot and a World Series title. Its a beautiful state, very small, but u never hear too much about the outdoors. That would be Vermont[N],or upstate N.Y.[N.E.].Im sorry good fishin,Stripers. You responded to my forum, about northern ADKs in N.Y. Just for the hell of it,look into it if your coming to the northeast. You wouldnt want to go home.

;) There is decent whitetail hunting in MA. but it's a good 2-21/2 hrs west of Beantown, in the Berkshire Mountains. Take the little Lassie to a nice Bed & Breakfast. Tell her you'll provide the dinner after she has her breakfast solo, while you are out in the mountains.

WAIT one second ... I beg to differ!

I live exactly 9 miles from the heart of downtown Boston, and can tell you there are gobs of deer within 3 miles of me, or about 15 minutes from the airport. It's not 3000 acre parcels of public land like out west, Mass hunting is all about finding blocks of woods 15 to 50 acres big with deer .. some of these tiny blocks will have 10 to 20 deer in them, it's all a matter of location. Mass has some of the best genetics in the country. If you live in California, you are used to driving 45 minutes to get a good burrito .. here in Mass 45 minutes from Boston could put you in Rhode Island, New Hampshire or out past Worcester. We have outstanding waterfowling along the sea coast or on WMA's in the interior and healthy populations of grouse and woodcock in the fall. We also have a very healthy turkey population.

You have a better shot at getting a deer in Mass than driving up to NH's White Mountains or Maine's paper company lands!

[8D] I agree, I know there are some great spots near Beantown. I just figured the young man, in for the weekend might find it difficult to find one of the nice, bunched patches that you spoke of. Getting permission etc. etc.. That's why I suggested he hunt the Berkshires. You folks do have some great deer, very true.

Sorry Jay,didnt mean to ruffle feathers!15 to 50 acres?Permission, amount of hunters in those blocks, how many of those are posted or somebodys goldmine that they would give their firstborn for?Thats what im dealing with more and more down here where im from.Grouse, woodcock, and turkey are abundant all over the east coast nowadays. How about Striper fishing?Yea, striper fishing. You probably have a better chance getting on a head or charter boat than finding a block of land that everybody and their mother claims is their own.MA probably does have the best striper fishing in the NE.:)

RE: Good area?

I recall that MA only has an Archery, Shotgun, and Muzzleloading seasons, no rifle.

Also Non-Resident Hunting licenses are $99.50 for Big game.

This is the web site for the MA game commission liscense information http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/dfw/dfwfees.htm

Good luck hunting....
