Is This Deer Legal in Western PA?
http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/tm.asp?m=469661
Check out this buck. It's a 3X3 that almost makes B&C. Would they fine you if you shot this in western PA under the 4 point rule? I think I would have to take this over a basket-racked 8-point and take my chances. I guess it would be better to let this buck grow. In a couple of years he might be a wall hanger:D. Absolutely. I think they would fine you in a second. Granted, if I saw a rack that big I would probably shoot as well never thinking to look for four points, but I don't think the pgc is too forgiving on that rule.

The nubs it has for brow times are border line legal .. 1 side looks almost big enough to qualify as a legal 4 point.

RE: Is This Deer Legal in Western PA?
The first year of the antler restriction allowed brow tines to be just nubs. Now they have to be at least an inch. I don't know about this deer. It may be legal but I couldn't be sure in the field and I guess I'd have to pass it up and wait for a deer with more points.

Barnes is correct - the updated AR states that all points (including brow) have to be one inch. That buck would not be legal.
That is definetely a mature buck in many areas....except western PA. |
RE: Is This Deer Legal in Western PA?
Oh, I am sure you would be fined. I find it rather funny actually as you would probably be following the intent behind the law though not necessarily the letter of the law...;)

RE: Is This Deer Legal in Western PA?
Very true, PABowhunter. That buck was a muture buck from Kansas. It would definitely be the biggest buck they've seen at the butcher shop in PA. However, too small for Alt.

Look at the bright side - if you hit it with your car it would only cost you $60 for the rack;):D:D.

With two busted brow tines, Brian King's Kansas giant had only 3 scorable points on each side of its rack
He was legal at some time. Luck of the draw. I'd let a senior or a kid get a crack at him. Or wait til next year. |
RE: Is This Deer Legal in Western PA?
For me , Yes...
For most of you adult hunters , no.... The nubs for brows dnt really look to be near an inch long to count as the 4th point. If they arent , then you have to let that buck walk. |
