RE: Deer hides ?
Your best bet is to take them in as soon as possible, throw some salt on them as soon as they are skinned. the last time I sold on the most I got was $12-15

RE: Deer hides ?
I process deer in NE Pa and this year hides are around $7.00 for big ones and $2.00 for little ones. It changes every year based on supply and demand just like fox, coyote, coon,...ect. You will get the best price if it is salted, not too many holes, no bare spots from dragging, a good sized deer buck or doe, and it must be clean skinned which means no flesh or fat. Also you must skin with the tail left on and take the hide all the way up to the base of the deer's head or it's not considered a full hide which means less money. You have to skin them out any way and if I can get a dollar a piece it's better than throwing it out. I have also been selling capes to a friend who has a taxidermy shop for $25.00 each. The bucks must be a two year old or better. So if I process one for somebody and he/she doesn't want it mounted I cape it and sell the cape. Any of you can get a hold of a local taxidemist and sell nice capes to them because people are always screwing theirs up for example...cutting a hole in the ear for a tag, cutting it's throat, dragging it out and taking all the hair off it's shoulder from rubbing the ground, not leaving enough hide for mounting. That's some of the bigger problem's. Most taxidermist's will show you the easiest way to cape a deer out and it's pretty simple once you do a few try it on you're next small buck that you're not going to mount for practice.
