Hunters in PA,CT,DE,ME,NJ help please

Hello everyone. We are heading a movement in Virginia to legalize Sunday hunting, and we are trying to narrow down which states do/do not allow hunting on Sunday. Please email or post if your state allows it or not.

Thanks,
Darrell

No Sunday hunting in NJ and It stinks. People work all week and only get one day of hunting. What kind of crap is that? We pay the state GOOD money to hunt and they will not open up Sunday. I bet if every hunter in NJ did not buy there 2004 hunting license they would wake up and open it up. Hit them where it hurts in there pocket. We the hunters are the ones that keep wild life safe and keep valuable land from becoming another adult community. So I am all for Sunday hunts.

Maine is voting this session for small game Sunday hunting with shotgun only.I think its only in the gated No. maine woods region. It could be a real good start.

i think sunday should be a day of rest for man and the wildlife. plus it is a day for people who dont hunt to enjoy the outdoors. i say no hunting on sundays. if people complain about working all the time, then maybe they should quit during hunting season, or find another job.[8D] peace

If man decides he should rest on Sunday, then rest...but don't dictate what others should or should not do. Here in VA, the game department biologists have stated that there is no biological reason to keep the ban in place...so the game obviously gets enough rest. As for the people that don't hunt enjoying the outdoors, what, they can't enjoy the outdoors on the other 8 months out of the year when hunting season is not in? They have to have the cold winter months to themselves also? And as for your work argument, my family depends on my paycheck year round. Maybe you don't have a family to support, and if you do, I can't imagine how you could have that opinion. Your making the same bogus, groundless arguments that all the other anti-Sunday people are.

RE: Hunters in PA,CT,DE,ME,NJ help please

hello darrell. i just read your post. why do you think im an anti hunting person? i am a big time hunter. but here in pa, alot of our privite farms, alot us to hunt. provided that there is no hunting on sunday. the farmers want there land to thereselfs on that day. if the sunday hunting goes though, alot of those farms will be off limits . and for the non-hunters who enjoy the outdoors. they have just as much right as you do. you love hunting, people might love bird watching. its not my thing but to someone else, it might be all they have. we have to share, 1day in 7 seven isnt so much. i can go on and on, about sunday hunting, i dont think you know how big of an issue that is, plus it affects alot of people in different ways. i understand yours but i think you should try and understand everyones point of view. peace

RE: Hunters in PA,CT,DE,ME,NJ help please

To clarify, I didn't state you were anti-hunting. I have had many points brought to my attention about Sunday hunting. Some arguments have a little content...most do not. If any land owner feels he does not want hunters on his property on Sunday, that is his decision...that doesn't mean he is suddenly going to bar hunters from his land on the other six days. Allowing Sunday hunting isn't going to cause a sudden flood of trespassers on his land. If trespassing is a problem, it is likely that anyone violating trespassing laws are also violating Sunday hunting laws. As for the nature watchers, I have no problem sharing the woods. But these individuals seem to think they will be shot the second they walk into the woods if Sunday hunting is allowed. I also question how many of these individuals are watching wildlife in the bitter cold months when hunting season is in. I have started a movement here in VA to repeal the ban, so I am very aware of how big the issue is. I invite you browse our website to get a further understanding of our case against this ban.

hello darrell let me start me saying, our farmers in pa have an agreement with the pa game commision that lets us hunt there land as long as theres no sunday hunting. this is on paper. we will lose that land forever if sunday hunting is allowed. you also say that hunting is in the bitter cold months, well i dont know where you hunt, but most seasons in the country start in sept. and it just so happens, that sept. and oct. are the best time to be in the woods, no matter what your hobby is. im giving real time issues on this sunday hunting. the only reason you want it , is because you cant get off work. what about the non hunting people? they work to. and they should be aloud 1 out of 7 to enjoy the outdoors. like i said i just gave you 2 reasons not to have it. losing hunting land is very major to us hunters in pa. you have to sell me on this sun. hunting. it has to benfit everyone. ill wait for your reply. and it cant be because i cant get off work. peace

How about on sgl's? They are bought through hunter license sales, yet bikers, hikers, and horseback riders demand access. They have lobby groups in
H-burg too.

RE: Hunters in PA,CT,DE,ME,NJ help please

hello mike. yes the sgl are owned by the hunters. as long as people respect the law and game lands there on, what is wrong with letting people enjoy them. thats just being neighborly. how about the state forests and state parks that we dont own ,but hunting is aloud. the dcnr doesnt have to let hunting on those lands , but they do. thats just being neighorly. we have to share the outdoors mike. and this post is about sunday hunting, not sgls. peace

RE: Hunters in PA,CT,DE,ME,NJ help please

Well, your point was about Sunday hunting and farm lands, how Sunday hunting would alienate farmers and lead to posted lands. My point was sgl's belong to hunters of this state, we are in fact, the owners.

painless19464 01-27-2004 04:54 PM

RE: Hunters in PA,CT,DE,ME,NJ help please

hey mike whats up? yes the sgl are own by us the hunters. and yes the pgc can allow hunting on sunday if it wants to. i guess that whould be ok, i dont see a issue with that. but most people want hunting on sun. statewide. and there are issues with that. one is the farmers and farmland. they do not want hunters on there land on sunday. they have agreements with the pgc about that. if sunday hunting is allow in pa the farmers will close there lands to hunting. i think we have to make sure if hunting on sun. opens up here in pa, that it has to be done the right way. what do you think about that? peace

Okay, this thread has gone on and on and is rather pointless...we're in two different states with different seasons, laws, etc. If you tell me what my reasons can or can't be, why ask? My job (which I'm stating facts here, not complaining) requires my Monday-Friday. Paid vacation? Nope. Paid sick days? Nope. Paid any kind of leave? Nope. If I'm not there, I don't get paid. And don't tell me to find another job-I have heard that far too many times already. I happen to like my job, I have a high level of job security, and it pays the bills...I can't justify leaving it just to have paid time off to hunt. Which leaves Saturday to hunt. My wife works 1-3 Saturdays per month, which means I have my kids. So, on a good month, I have 3 days to hunt...PER MONTH. This is the single most common reason for Sunday hunting in VA. Our general firearms season starts in late November (not September as where you are). Want another good reason? See this post:
http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/fb.asp?m=514373
How can you argue with that? The number of youth hunters is declining at a disturbing rate. Unless more opportunities are created, this is a trend that will not change.
