yeah that's one BIG headed black bear , and at 700 lbs, no light weight either LOL

I didn;t see anything in the article about its age!
as they do have the ability to age them, just seems like would have been nice info to add to the story!

I have to think its a pretty old bear to get that size

and rather amazing that a bear that size and odds are its OLD age,
didn;t get tagged some where along its life time!
but congrats to the new record holder

They are both huge black bears but that new world record is an absolute monster!!

BHC, you may know the answer to this. I looked some of that story up online and it looks like it was shot in a county fairly close to NYC?

What's the bear hunting like there? Morris county I believe it was. That close- it has to be highly populatated.

That is a hog of a black bear, probably crossed the Delaware from PA into NJ.

Wow, That is a big critter. I would love to put my sights on something like that.

Rather you than me, after you have it on the ground some real work starts.

Parts of Morris County are rural, and other parts are urban, from where the bear was shot to NYC anywhere between 33 miles to about 37 miles

In order to age a bear the premolar tooth, has to be sent to a lab where an extremely thin slice is cut from it across the round and then it is stained so the annual rings can be seen, then the rings are counted just like aging a tree. That requires the tooth to be sent to a lab and that takes time, they may not even have the results back yet.
