Not unusual, the only bears that hibernate are the bred females and they will wake up if bothered. Others will make a nest or crawl in somewhere during bad weather and sleep and come out and poke around for food in good weather.

No bears live in Grand Isle County here in Vermont. It is the only place in the state without them.
