RE: why hasn't all Pa gone shotgun only
I hear ya Gar...and I agree with the fact that the shotgun isn't nearly the weapon that the rifle it. The shotgun is improving, though and guys are hitting near 175 yards with slight height adjustment. Range isn't the reason I hate the shotgun.
I haven't mentioned this yet, but the shotgun is a deer wounding wonder. I DO NOT shotgun hunt in Ohio. I bowhunt only here. (Rifle hunt in WV) Guys leave their squirrel barrel on, don't sight their gun in, head for the woods, and fling lead. You RARELY hear a single shot in Ohio during gun season. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM is the norm. (Used to be 5 BOOM'S till they passed the plug rule) We find an incredible amount of dead deer during late bow and rabbit season. Some years we find in excess of 20.
I can understand why you guys want to limit the number of bucks killed, and think the scattergun will help. It's just no way to deer hunt, if you ask me. The only guns I've seen that'll group well are pricey and kick like a mule.

I think it is genetics also my cousin shot a spike this year and my uncle said the deer was seven years old . Shotguns should only be where there are large populations. I say give his plan a try good bucks have nice racks in two years . P.S. Take a youngster hunting keep hunting alive

Proline,
Now that you mention it, I think you have a point. Slugs do not have the knock down power of a centerfire rifle. I had seen lots of crippling loss at Fort Campbell KY where they only allow shotguns. I "bowhunted only" there for about five years. Found lots in the woods with multiple slug holes in them. Even nastier at the check station. I never thought about that part of slug hunting before. Lets keep the Rifle in PA except where there are high human populations.

Yeah, Great Idea LedgenLS, lets ban rifles in Pa. That way the anti-gun folks can have an easier time getting them from us. We won't have a use for them so you don't need them. Right?

well there fight4 I was going to let your post pass without comment, hardly do I think it deserves one. that is comming from a kid that has spoken out against other weapons. But apparently the moderators do not consider your posts as challenges to ones merit as a gun owner/sportsman.; or have been selective in just whom or which posts or topics they support thus pull. so I shall respond with this brief retort: your ignorance in such a statement only confirms your shallowness. Saftey in urban areas has nothing to do with gun ownership or the fight for it. i suggest you gain a few wrinkles in your brow before you try to defend anything. youy do more harm to your cause by opening your mouth with uneducated jargon then you do it good.

Nowhere in your ramblings did you mention safety in urban areas. Maybe you should pay more attention to your own posts.

I find you hardly worthy of a comment by me. anyone that needs to be reminded of firearm saftey in any discussion of weapons, proves his own integrity to all.you may be better to stick to Tonkas, less apt to hurt someone that way

Again I ask you, where did I speak out against ANY other weapon? Can't answer that can you? Talk about showing your integrity!
You just plain lied!
And when did you EVER in this post mention shotguns for safety reasons? Can't answer that one either! Can you!
Obviously shotguns are safer in urban areas noone is disputing that, but you maybe in your own mind. There is alot of Pa. that is not urban, alot.
And don't think for a minute I would lose sleep if you don't grace my posts with your holier than thou rambles.
Your ramblings are again showing your true intentions of being on this BBS.
Have a nice day!
