Maine has a new bear record!!

Hi all, I just want to let those interested know that Maine now has a new Black Bear Record.. The record for black bear here is now standing at 699lbs. I will put a pic up when I get my desk top computer up and running again. No it was not me that shot it. But, it is a monster..

BarnesX.308 09-20-2012 04:41 PM

Was that the one that was shot by a guy from PA? I saw a picture. It was a beast.

I am not 100% sure where the guy was from. But, yes it surely is a beast. I wouldn't want to meet up with it without a gun. If I can borrow this computer tonight I will try and get the pic up. Other than that I prolly can't until mid next week.

he said from maine.
The state of Maine allows people from Pennsylvania to hunt there :D

The guy was on a guided hunt in Maine but he lives in PA.

BOWHUNTERCOP 09-21-2012 03:44 PM

Big bear, that size is common here in NJ

BarnesX.308 09-21-2012 06:03 PM

Big bear, that size is common here in NJ
and in your western neighboring state :D

The reason they get so big in PA is because we have a joke of a season. 3 days in late November with no dogs or bait.

Maine actually hunts their bears. For a bear to get that big with far more being shot is pretty amazing. That boy avoided a lot of hunters as he raided all those donut barrels :D He was probably 100% nocturnal until he got greedy that day.

BOWHUNTERCOP 09-22-2012 04:18 AM

You think PA is a joke try this one from NJ.....Bear season is the first full week of December which is our 6 day shotgun deer hunt

i read it wrong, lol sorry. I thought you were talking about the bear.

Phil from Maine 09-22-2012 10:45 PM

This guy was in fact from PA. Here is a link to the colum in our local news paper.. http://bangordailynews.com/2012/09/2...ting-in-maine/

Here is a pic from the record bruin. It is not the best picture by no means, although it is the only pic I have..

This is a very true statement BarnesX and if you look around in that section of the paper you will see that this is turning out to a banner year of large bears. They are guessing that with the heat this summer and a lack of food crop that the bears are packing on the wieght earlier than normal. This is leading the biologists up here to believe that they will be hybernating early this year.

BOWHUNTERCOP 09-23-2012 12:01 AM

what part of county in Maine was it killed in? was the hunt with a outfitter and if so, which one?

BarnesX.308 09-23-2012 06:15 AM

That would make our bear season useless. Many years the bears were denned up already before the season started. The 1st year I hunted bear in PA, the snow was above my knees and I didn't know why I was wasting my time. We have an archery bear season that's earlier in the year (mid-November) but it's during the week and I don't have the time to take from work.

I will be in Maine next fall. Hopefully the deep snow holds off this year and we can shoot a PA bear. My trail cameras are filthy with bears all summer.

I am not sure who the outfitter was at this time as well as where it was taken at. It is hard to get very much info right now as the guides are quite busy during this time of year. Once things settle down a little I should be able to help you out with your questions. I am sorry that I am not much help to you right now.

I hope you have some great luck down there in PA BarnesX as well if you do make it up this way next year.

Thanks for the link, it pretty much says it all and some nice pics with it as well..

BarnesX.308 09-25-2012 04:34 AM

I'm going out with my son on Saturday, Nov. 17th for a try at a PA bear. He's only 10 so he can't shoot. This is why we will go to Maine. I want him to get his first bear. I've already shot one, it's his turn.

Phil from Maine 09-25-2012 05:17 AM

I surely hope that you have some success and a nice story to tell us about it. I also hope when you and your son are up here that both of you get a decent bear as well. IMO we have to many of them here. I will not hunt them as I do not like the meat off them. My mom and wife says to go shoot one and it has not happened yet. Good Luck to you..

BarnesX.308 09-25-2012 09:32 AM

Thanks. We have too many bears around our place as well. Game commission is constantly dealing with nuisance bears.

If I remember the stats correctly, we have 30,000 bears. Of the 100,000 bear licenses sold, 3% of those hunters get a bear.

The one good thing is, you can pat on yourself if you're one of the 3%. :D

Nice bear, I just got back from around Ashland ME moose hunting and there were alot of Pennsylvania guys up there bear hunting.
