Oct. 1st NY SZ Archery Opener!!!!
 

Not sure if many have heard about it, but the NY Southern Zone will now have October 1st as the Archery Opener! Hope everyone is getting ready b/c it'll be here before you know it.

Good deal...but it may be warmer than I prefer.

I'm glad, far as warm, and earlier I live and bowhunt the Northern Tier season which starts 9/27 on previous yrs license. You just have to make preparations to cool your game. Heck western states start end of August!! I like the earlier season becasue I find the deer more predictable in feeding patterns. The Rut is fun, but hard to predict. I wish they opened Northern Archery earlier, and gave us more than 4 days on left over tags. Northern archery is just too short, only couple wks. If a wknd hunter like myself, you don't get much time with the bow.

Hopefully it won't be to hot. Nothing worse than sweating your balls off and not seeing anything.

this is great for us in NY... I just need to get my days off to start on the first and second. and go from there. I already switched my vacation to the second two weeks of october because it took them too long to say that they were going to do the first of the month... Been waiting since the season ended for it to start again... Going to have a total of 19 days off in October... Muahahahahaha... Now I have to figure out where I am going to hunt.. Silver creek?? East Otto??? Cuba??? Hinsdale??? Randolf??? Good luck guys!!! I hope we all have a great season!!!

I am pumped. Probably afternoon hunts only as I hang my deer overnight in the barn. Have to get up extra early to butcher. I am fine with that. We get two more weeks to wait out a mature buck before all the crazy gunners get out there.

I process my own game and I can bone out a deer in about 10 minutes. That's just enough to fire up the grill!!! I'm usually eating backstrap before the deer cools down!!! I bone it out, then take it to the fridge while I cut/package.
As far as gunners being out there, coyote,rabbit,turkey,squirrel,Etc. will also be open for much of the state. I know I'll be out gettin' some coyotes after dark with the rimfire and 12Ga.!!!

Early opener is good for my old bones,its about time.
