Mentored Youth Question
I thought I heard something about mentored youth hunters applying for their own antlerless tags. I looked at the digest and it still says the same as last year - I can transfer mine to him. Has that changed and not in the book or am I just crazy and imagining things?

Yes, PA. I thought I heard they were going to go that way but I've not seen anything in the book about it.
However, last year we could transfer our tag to a mentored youth. That wasn't in the book because the rule changed before they book went to print.
I have no problem giving my kid my doe tag. But, I passed up so many deer last year in early archery because he wasn't with me. I haven't shot a deer with my bow since 2008. My kid just turned 10 and has more deer under his belt than I do over the last few year That's good, though.

As far as I know the rules have not changed. A youth can shoot an anterless deer provided the mentor has a valid anterless tag which he transfers to the youth. There is a bit more as to what you need to do about signing and stating it was transferred etc. I will have to read up on it in case my grandson gets luck enough to shoot one.

My 9 year old shot a doe with me last year. I took out my tag, we filled it out and tagged the deer. As I remember it, he was to fill out the tag. But, there wasn't really anything to fill out. I think it was date, time and maybe township and county. It wasn't much.

As one of the originators of the MY doe tag transfer bill, I got lots of satisfaction when it was passed last year
