PA,
I don' t care when they start the application process. Not sure where you are going with this and how it relates to the topic.
thndrchiken,
Just a rebuttle.
1) Hearsay, not fact. Show me a newspaper article or something to back the story up. Until then, it' s all hearsay. Might as well be internet urban legend. I' ve prepared three applications as of last night. I can' t see how that label is coming off.
2) No arguement
3) No arguement
4) If you follow the directions how can you make a mistake?
The people we ever hear from are the few minority that are never satisfied. Mean while there' s hundreds of thousands of other hunters out there receiving their tags with no problems.
Btw, if you didn' t get a tag in an area you wanted check to see if a DMAP zone is close by. There is 16,000+ DMAP tags available in the state that is in addition to the regular anterless and bonus tags.
By October rolls around I will have applied for one anterless tag, two bonus tags and three DMAP tags.

Jason,
There are 67 different county treasurer offices in the state. Each have different workloads and the resources to handle them. I' m sure that one ct office can handle the applications quickly while others cannot because of other duties that come first. I don' t see what the problem is as long as you get your tag before archery season starts.

I' ll also agree that the label falling off is not documented anywhere. It' s nothing more than gossip as far as I' m concerned, but there is always the " what if" factor!

I will admit that this is a story told to me through a friend , but the source is very reliable. Second most I personally had to tape my label onto my application envelope. and I have spoken to many friends and others who had to do the same thing. Which leads me to belive that this is highly possible. I will bet any amount that there are bins sitting in post offices around the state that have doe liscences in them that can' t be delivered. And when people find out that their label fell off and now their wmu is sold out they won' t have their doe liscence. And most of us don' t have the luxury of being able to have many hunting spots in different wmu' s or the time off of work to be able to travel to a different wmu.

they saw numerous bins of Doe applications
Now sure, I bet a post office may have a bin to place dead letters in. But no way do I see there being a problem that involves hundreds of applications at one location.

T, initially I would have to agree with you on point 1, until I just got off the phone from my cousin who does live in Clearfield. The label on his application did fall off and fortunately for him his next door neighbor works in the post office and fixed it for him. While I do agree with you that there probably aren' t as many there as it sounds like there are some. I do have to agree with you though that the people making the biggest stink are the ones who aren' t happy with anything. Not trying to stir the pot jus voicing my opinion and that is what this board is for, isn' t it? I know that if I don' t get my tag for that reason I will be very unhappy.

Correct me if I' m wrong, but if the label falls off won' t the envelope be returned to the " return address?" I mean, that' s part of the reason we put our return address on it, isn' t it?

The answer would be...no.
T in PA2,
Where I am going with this is rather simple. If the application process were to start a bit earlier then many of the hunters who show some concern over " where their doe tag is" might be somewhat satiated if their application were to get back to them with more time left before the season.
And, though not directly related, one of the reasons that I was hearing for a refusal to start the archery season a week or two sooner was that the county treasurers would not have enough time to get all of the doe tags back prior to the start of the season.
Just something I was curious about.
