Default Wow New Yorkers, your deer figures are awesome!

I was just on the NY State DEC website and was doing some research regarding last years' deer hunting facts/figures/etc...

http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/42232.html

2010 Season
230,100 deer taken in New York!
(it's great to know that my buck from last season contributed to that figure! )

Northern Zone
Least amount - Warren County (Lake George area): 661 deer harvested.
Most amount - Jefferson County (Watertown area): 7,261 deer harvested.

Southern Zone
Least amount - Rockland County (Nyack, Tappen Zee Bridge area): 267 deer harvested.
Most amount - Steuben County (Hornell, Bath, area): 11,485 deer harvested!

My sister & brother-in-law's farm (DEC area 7M, Madison County), tiny little town of Brookfield:
4,685 deer harvested!

I'M COMING BACK UP AGAIN THIS SEASON!

= = = = = = = Comparison to Virginia in 2010 = = = = = = =
Virginia: 219,797 deer harvested.
Least amount - Newport News County (rather obvious): 126 deer harvested.
Most amount - Bedford County (base of the Blue Ridge Mts): 7500 deer harvested.
Virginia: No hunting on Sunday.
Virginia: They hunt with hound dogs east of the Blue Ridge Mts.
Virginia: George Washington & Jefferson National Forest very similar to the Adirondacks, but without -30° temps and 3 feet of snow in winter.

= = = = = = = Side by side geography/demographics = = = = = = =
Virginia: Highest point - Mt. Rogers (5,729 feet)
New York: Highest Point - Mt. Marcy (5,344 feet)

Virginia: Lowest point - Sea level.
New York: Lowest point - Sea level.

Virginia: Size - 42,774 sq. miles.
New York: Size - 54,556 sq. miles.

Shhhh! Don't let everyone know! LoL! Hopefully I'll have better luck this year. I stalked my buck last year to within 20Yds. I thought I'd hit him perfectly, but when I found my arrow the 100gr. Muzzy was all bent like I hit his shoulder blade. It's hard to believe that a rib bone stopped my arrow and tweaked the broadhead so much. Needless to say I never recovered that deer.I enjoy hunting and that's all that matters! Good luck to you Butch! What part of NY will you be hunting?

Good morning...

I will be coming back up to NY and will be hunting on my sister & brother-in-law's 125 acre farm. DEC area 7M. Madison County. Brookfield is a tiny little town south of Utica.

Last season I nailed a nice buck at about 100-120 yards with my Savage .308 and dropped him in his tracks. He was a nice sized deer and was originally a 6 pointer, but must have gotten into a fight with the infamous massive 10 pointer that's been spotted around town. He got his a.$.$. kicked big time, and in the result, he got his front (G2 ?) tine busted off on the right side which turned him into a 5 pointer.

Thanks.... I travel up Route 12 thru Binghamton, thru Norwich, Sherburne, etc... and then head over towards route 8 into Brookfield, NY to my sister & brother-in-law's farm.

I'm glad Madison County allows rifles, because I've never taken a deer with my Remington 870 12GA before.

Madison County (total) had 4,685 deer harvested last year. The town of Brookfield led the way in Madison County with (total) 468 deer harvested.

I can't wait to come back up again this season!

I happen to hike Mt. Marcy twice while in college...lol

Well you wouldn't know it where I hunt last year...I barely saw any deer...think it had to do with food location.

That's kind of how the George Washington Nat'l Forest is down here in Virginia. Some places are loaded with deer, other places are completely devoid of any signs of anything! It's all about location...
