Default NY Watershed Hunting

I am new to the forum and was hoping to get opinions on hunting the watershed lands in southern NY.

I think you need a DEP Permit to hunt the watershed property and a permit to park
Both are free and you can sign up on line

Lots of nice land(tough terrain)! I haven't had any luck thus far there! Follow rules/regs to a T!

hey man welcome to the forum. I am from Lindenhurst too, sitting in my basement riding out the hurricane as I write this. I have never hunted watershed property but the property i do hunt on borders about 300 acres of watershed. Its rough terrain in there but no very crowded with hunters if any. I dont think you would have any problems hunting the watersheds. sometimes getting into them and parking is quite difficult because i dont believe there is legal parking within the watershed property. thats something to check with the DEC on. anyways goodluck hope you faired well thru the storm.

Thanks for the info. I have already got my access permits and I have got a place picked out. It's nice to hear from someome in Lindenhurst. I hope you made it through the storm OK. I am in Florida right now and was down here during the storm. I was sad to here about the devastation in Prattsvillle. That is not to far from the DEP land i had picked out.

FYI, certain DEP areas on opening weekends are "doe only" and you will need a DMP. The regulations for hunting DEP areas are clear and should you fail to follow them you will be cited.

Good Luck!
