hog hunting in new york
 

anyone know where you can hunt them in tioga,cortland,onondaga county's?

Are you looking for feral hogs or a canned hunt? there is, or at least was a place near Cortland NY call "cold brook hunts" its high fenced, boars, fallow deer, bison, that sorta thing.

free range,suppose to be feral hogs that have migrated up from pa. in these areas

I have asked about this on here several times and from the responce I have recieved the DEC is keeping them in check. They seem to have contained them to a confined area and they are not spreading. I heard they had spread to a few other counties but no one has confirmed it.

I live a few miles from the ones in Cortland County. A few are shot every year as targets of opportunity in the 4 week (not 2) gun season. Still so rare and move enough so trying to target them is pretty much a waste of time. Most of the local landowners are pretty fed up with those trying to "help with the problem" without bothering to ask. I haven't heard of any granting pig only access - those who are seeing them are taking care of it themselves or the ones hunting there are doing it.

There has been no significant increase in sightings or kills since a couple years after the 1st ones.

actually, since the USDA stoped trapping last spring there has been a lot more sightings. I have been after them for five years and this year have seen the most sign/damage. They are spreading, slowly, but surely. They move one mountain closer every year it seems. I took a shot at one while targeting them this winter (the time to get them IMO) but they are so fast and hang out in the thickest cover it is very very tough. I saw a few that have been killed this year, more than ever in the past, I should have had a few. I saw a red/ black/ and a white one. They are escaping from several places and people are capturing the babies and then relocating them elsewhere.

also, its not that tought to gain access, withing minutes I have gotten several landowners to grant me permission, go ahead and try the least they could say is no
