Great pictures!!!

Opening day here yesterday, in central NY (area 7M), sounded like WWIII !! :eek2: All I saw was a massive doe (probably the matriarch of all the local deer) doing Mach IV through the woods up on the ridge at my sister's farm, and couldn't get a shot off in time.

But still, there's LOTS of deer and lots of time to get one! :s1:

Awesome pics Mike! That 11 is a hog of a buck for NY.

Nice deer boys! Keep knocking em down. I hunt 4N and 4O when I am home. Originally from Otsego County here but serving active duty USCG here in GA. 80 degrees here in GA, the deer aint moving and I am wishing I was home! Best of luck to you all.

Hey guys, I'm back home in Virginia (I got home around 6:00pm yesterday evening), after a great hunting trip up in New York. My 5 point buck yielded this much meat (professionally done by a processing center):

6 packages of meatloaf (ground venison + the added meat mixture from the butcher's own family recipe).
4 packages of ground venison (i.e. hamburger)
4 venison stew cuts
8 venison steaks
6 venison backstraps
2 venison tenderloins
2 venison roasts

I had to bring it all home in 3 coolers with ice. Thank God it's the end of November and chilly outside, because all the meat was still frozen and unharmed during the 9 hour ride in a cooler in the back of my truck.

The processing center I went to was called The Farmer's Place http://www.joesfarmersplace.com
They are in South Edmeston, NY (along Route 8 south of Utica).

If you're ever in upstate New York, and need a processor, these guys are amazing! They do beef, deer, pigs, turkey, and everything else! :happy0001:

I take my deer to south ed to the deer man every year! His jerky is awesome!

ButchA 11-28-2010 05:51 AM

Wow, really? You go to "The Deer Man"?? Small world! :cool2:

Originally, my brother-in-law was going to call some of his buddies and we'd all butcher up my deer, but my sister said no. So, I looked up The Deer Man (aka Joe Leonard) at The Farmer's Place, called them up and took my deer to them first thing in the morning.

There are so many deer in central New York... They gave me tag/receipt #204 for my deer. The place was slamming when I took my deer to them. It was like a revolving door with pickup trucks coming and going with deer in the pickup bed, over and over and over.

Since I was out-of-state, they put a "rush order" on my deer, so I could have it in time for when I headed back to Virginia. I was also the farthest non-resident that they processed deer for (they've done deer for NJ, MA, and CT residents, but not VA).

Anyway, I want to go back up to NY, back up to 7M in Madison County and try to find that monster 10 pointer that all the locals were talking about. I didn't see him when I was there, but I did see huge buck tracks. Hopefully he'll be there next year! :s2:

Glad you had a good hunt while up in New York. The deer man is makes some great products. I brought him some meat last year and got some great jerky, hot dogs, hot sausage and pepperoni sticks made up. So many great products come out of that butcher shop. We had some pigs brought there and you wouldn't believe the bacon and hams that he made up.
