NY Gobblers.....
Anyone else hunting NY come May? Have you been seeing many birds or hearing any gobbling yet? I know last year it seemed the toms were strutting and gobbling real early here...... any thoughts on this season?

Saw some strutting last weekend but haven't been around the hunting grounds looking around too much these last few days. Needless to say the group I saw was awesome to watch and a great sign for the season to boot! Searching for the 20+ lbers!!!

Birds have been gobbling for about 2 weeks in Walton N.Y. Delaware Cnty. Have seen a flock of about 20 with two Tom's strutting daily around lunch time. Still haven't heard any on the roost early evening.Weather this weekend should really heat things up. I think it will be over B4 it starts just like previous years.

I haven't seen the birds out I normally do once snow melts off. Seen 2 different groups in early morning just off their roost. Both groups had toms & jakes in full strut. I'm wondering if the birds are hanging back in woods eatting falls leftover food sources. My son heard gobbling other morning waiting for the school bus.

Thats what I was thinking. Haven't seen the number of birds in the fields as I usually do. Wondering if they are feeding in the woods, I know we had a ton of acorns around here this year.

I've been wanting to post on this topic for a few weeks. Before the big snow in late February I was seeing large flocks (up to 100+) all over Delaware Co. (primarily along the Rt. 10 corridor and surrounding areas). Once most of the snow was gone (couple weeks), I was again seeing turkeys daily feeding in fields and shortly after that the toms were all fanned out. About a week & a half ago I noticed that the goups broke up and instead of several toms fanned out in the large groups, there was just one (maybe two) with a much smaller group of hens (10-15). Then a few days after that I saw them gobbling. Just yesterday I heard one gobble to a rooster. I think it is real early this year and the early season should be good (hopefully they're not done by then! I have been amazed with the numbers of turkeys I have seen in Delware County since moving here in December. To bad I hunt mostly in Chenango Co.! Might have to spend some time at the in-laws in Hobart.

Been seeing scattered groups here & there past couple wks. Def. not the #'s had hoped too. Was starting to get little nervous. Then Wed. 4/7 all heck broke loose, and I was seeing birds out all over. Several in spots I had yet to see single bird. I drove around both in morning on way to work, and again on way home with it raining. I had to start writing down what I was seeing at my hunting spots so I wouldn't forget. Several real nice toms, strutting. Heard some gobbling in mornings listening out back of my house. Believe I also saw a old boy I was after last spring, and couldn't get in same area I saw him pre-season last spring. I know he was alone & real big!! The blood is pumping, May 1st can't come soon enough.
