New Maine record or hoax?

This photo was sent to me by my cousin, which was e-mailed to him. It is supposedly a new Maine whitetail record. There wasn't much detail accompanying the photo. Maybe Champlain,Ed or Phil may know something of this story. It is strange that noone from Maine posted this in the northeast forum.

Gotta be some great photoshopping ! If you look at the deer compared to the guy the deer would have to weigh 500lbs.

Daveboone 01-24-2010 07:32 AM

This has been flipping around a afair bit. Regardless, it is a massive freaking deer. He doesnt look like he is dressed for hunting though, and isnt most Maine deer hunting done with snow on the ground? I would bet lunch at McDonalds that it is a very expensive pen raised deer.

That thing is the size of an elk. If that was a record somewere, I'm sure it would have been reported in some outdoor rag.

LOL we do have some big deer but I have never seen anything that size..LOL It is surely some great photo shopping though..

Not really as it veries from the northern part to the southern part of the state. Most of the state in the past few years has had little snow on the ground. It is normally cold in most areas though.. I would bet you it is nothing more than photo shopping..

I think that deer is tranked. His tongue tells a tale along with no blood of any kind. Deer usually die with their eyes open. He is panting, it appears.
My neighbor's cousin's sister's neighbor tranked one just like it.

BigBuck95 01-25-2010 10:28 AM

stomach is disproportionate to the rest of the body/man.
Also, there is a gap between the hand and rack. FAKE

BTBowhunter 01-25-2010 10:40 AM

My BS meter is pegged on this one! The sheer fact that it hasn't been spalshed all over the outdoor press says volumes.

I say fake!

blkpowder 01-25-2010 12:26 PM

Well gentleman, the hunter is from Maine. The deer is not fake! What is fake, the location of the kill. Wonder what the hunter paid for that buck?

Maine Buck Removed

We removed that big buck post from “Maine”, it was a fake deal, actually it was from a deer farm somewhere in WI. I received comments and info from a couple of readers…thanks guys. I was afraid of that from the beginning. We do not endorse pen raised deer hunts, only fair chase hunts.
www.american-hunter.com/monster-buck-from-maine

It was killed on a trophy farm in Wisconsin.
This farm: http://www.wildernesswhitetails.com/ . If you go to the Trophy Gallery for 2009, this picture is in there.

Daveboone 01-25-2010 01:27 PM

According to the Wilderness Whitetail website (and sure enough, there is our lucky hunter and buck) it is an 800 acre game farm. $10,000.00 for a 170 class or greater deer, with a 5000.00 trophy fee, depending on actual scoring! I am sorry, but the massive deer they show look grotesque to me. Sure I would love to honestly come by a huge wild grown deer, but I couldnt be proud doing it this way.

blkpowder 01-25-2010 05:28 PM

$15,000.00 for his trophy!!!! I'll have to find this guy's number and tell him I'll take him hunting. He won't kill one like that, but I'll only charge him an even $5,000.00. I'll even throw in a spring turkey hunt.:s2:

fellas2 01-25-2010 05:55 PM

I'll bet anything that deer was raised by Barry Bonds and Mark Mcgwire !!!

Don't forget Jose Canseco.

I've got to say, and I'll probably get flamed big time for it, but it just doesn't seem right. I watched 1 1/2 vids on that web site of the kills, and couldn't watch any more.

To put such magnificent animals behind a high fence, kill them for sport, and have the " hunters " carry on the way they do, just doesn't seem right.

As many are probably thinking, ' then don't watch it ", your right , I won't.

This really stresses my " to each his own " philosophy.

crokit 01-26-2010 12:25 PM

my bad.....

halfbakedi420 01-26-2010 12:48 PM

well i put it in a photo shopper and it sure looks like a bloody finger print on the deers left antler at the top..im onna say its real...and looks corn fed or something, maybe a pet?

Check out the site referenced earlier and click on videos of thier hunts. One hunt shows the guy shooting this deer. It's real all right. 'bout all I can say about it.

berks/clintonbowhunter13 01-26-2010 06:28 PM

Well it still looks fake, there is no blood anywhere? not even on the tongue... the way he is holding thoses huge, heavy horns is not real. and look how long the body is. that think looks like 600 pounds. =/

berks/clintonbowhunter13 01-26-2010 06:40 PM

NVM. i believe it now. i just went on their website and watched a video of them "hunting." couldn't even finish it, makes me sick watching those people shoot deer in high fences. =[ What a challenge.

When "Goliath" died he was well over 400 pounds. These deer are treated like NFL players until their 6.5 and then put into a 5-25 acre enclosure so someone can shoot it. I could never do it, I wonder how many of those "hunters" are honest about the trophies they bring home?

crokit, that would make two of us then. Because I agree with you a 100%!!!!

norajake 01-27-2010 02:00 AM

unless that guy is a member of the lolipop guild there is no way that deer is the real deal. He looks like a midget.

Although I have a number of respectable trophies (none over 130, if I were to guess) I am as proud of my four point I shot this year as any. I spent time over two years scouting state forest, game camera work, and plenty of winter tracking to figure out the local deer movements before I got a chance.I shot a 205 lb 11 pt 41/2 year old four years ago which is my best deer, but I stumbled on it by pure luck. Only deer I ever had mounted, but I certainly didnt earn it. I would rather go fishing every day for a week and get skunked, rather than buy a fish sandwich at McDonalds. The "hunter" obviously can afford the price for the hunt, but would he still if he understood the ridicule and disgust that "real hunters" feel about his and the "outfitters" actions?

bowfly 02-10-2010 08:47 AM

did i already comment on this? deja vu is setting in...my email said it came from northern quebec or ontario

Genetic engineering, bovine growth hormones, steroids, supplements, 24/7/365 feed, water, and only scheduled "predators", that's the recipe.

Tough to make a living growing regular deer ;)

Even tougher trying to pass it off at anything approaching fair chase. :arms:

elkmtngear 02-15-2010 12:25 PM

"Wilderness Whitetails"....what a joke! I guess the name is supposed to make you feel better about shooting a deer in a pen :lolabove:

Best of Luck,
Jeff
