DMAP was designed so private landowners could better manage their property. It's absurd to think that any private landowner should be forced to let just anyone on their property. That's simply insane.Sorry but nobody should be forced to suffer financially from deer damage of any type because hunters want more easy targets.

I don't know Merlin Benner.I've never met him or talked to him.I do know that DCNR has several biologists. Why is that a bad thing?Do they have a special bear season, aspecial turkey season? They want the ability to control deer numbers to achieve the goals they have set.I'm not crazy about their goals but undertsnad that I'm only part of the 8% of citizens that hunt. The fact that I have hundreds of thousands of acres to use for free and for many other uses is unreal.A larger deer herd and better deer habitat would be nice but it's still good hunting by my standards.

The wild thing is Doug you support and defend this hair brained half ****ed agency time and time again unbelievable

Come on Doug you can’t honestly tell anyone here that the herd can’t be controlled with the unlimited tags issued

Why don’t you tell us all how your beloved DCNR held the game commission hostage till the got what they wanted. DMAP was never intended for the average pa land owner it was and is meant for DCNR of further up the kill

DougE;

It's not free Doug. You pay for it, I pay for it, Joe Schmoe pays for it, and our ancestors paid for it. As it stands, many of us paying for those state lands have no say in what goes on. We have no input. And when the DCNR asks for input, who do they get it from? The NWTF, the RGS, a couple of HPA eco-freaks, the QDMA etc etc etc. That conveniently leaves us folks that have troubles with this DMP on the outside looking in.

I don't know where Merlin Benners name came into this fray. But I've met Merlin and he is a nice enough guy. However, I have to question his motives from his stance in 2001 when he stated that the deer herd was doing well in the Tioga State Forest and that herd health indicated that food was abundant to his about face in 2002 when this DMP started.

Merlin retired from DCNR and is now part of a consulting firm that offers to manage properties for deer and you can bet he doesn't recommend 8 DPSM to his clients.

I wonder why here didn't mention deer. could it be there aren't enough left to have a significant impact?

He does mention deer on his website.

Where do you get the idea that I have all of this profound support for DCNR?Just because I understand what their mission is,doesn't mean I support them.It is what it is and complaining about the PGC for what happens on state forests isn't going to do anything. That's precisely why I mentioned just a few posts ago that you guys who hate the PGC will really be complaining if DCNR takes over.

DMAP certainly is intented for any landowners that wants more intense management.I know alot more landowners than just DCNR who utilize it.

Relatively few , non-commercial private land owners use the DMAP program. The total DMAP harvest in 2008 was only 5,744 and 40% of that occurred in just one WMU.

I got the chains on my tractor today, we might not have the most state forest land but we got more snow.
Just under 40 inches on my neighbors deck, in the woods its just over your knees, the grounds not frozen so its slowly going away.
I still couldn't make it to my turkey feeder, its on top of the hill.Maybe this week.
I put down close to 400 pounds of corn this afternoon, and a new buck got here a bit ago, nice 8pt I'm guessing 2.5 year old, that makes 6 different bucks and untold does and fawns.
Shed hunting is getting better each day.

And the Packer / Cardinal game is getting fun to watch.
