Bears in Harrisburg

This large bruin has been wrecking bird feeders and doing other damage in the Harrisburg suburbs.

Looks like a real hog of a bear, too. I've hunted bears in northern Dauphin co, on SGL 211, Stony and Peters mountains in the past. This is a real problem area with lots of complaints and bear numbers are on the rise here. WCO Mike Doherty has been appealing to hunters to help out here, and looks like they could use it. haven't seen too many large bears come from Dauphin, but I'm betting this guy is well over 300 pounds. Anybody else want to take a gander at his weight? looks like he's plenty fat, too...and that big ol' head is nice and wide between the ears. A trophy for sure. Good luck to everyone chasing bear next week...I'll be there too, on Jack's and Stone mountains in Huntingdon county. Hope I see this guy's twin!

My brother lives near Linglestown right off of 81 and his backyard was destroyed over the weekend. Smashed his wifes birdfeeders and bent the metal sheepards hooks flat to the ground. The bear climbed two different fences to get in there. They are scared to let the dog out at night now. He lives in a heavily populated area, houses right on top of one another.

That's the area they're talking about...That bear could go 400# +.......Hope the PGC catches up with him..not many opportunties there for hunitng with all the residences, but maybe someone will get lucky. The ones that come into the 'burbs and like to wreck stuff are the ones that worry me.

The PGC told my brother that he was anywhere from 400-600 lbs. I would agree with you about 400lbs. Quiet as a church mouse too, they never heard a thing and their beagle never even barked. My beagle barks at flies landing on the door!

LOl...the beagle was probably quiet because he was afraid he would be an appetizer!
