Where is everyone????
Haven't seen BTB (probably in Ill.), Doug, Cornelius, Bawanajim...even Bluebird in quite a while. Can't remember the last PA debate thread I saw. Did I miss something, did they all get booted off, or did they just migrate to another board? Kinda miss all the debating...Hope everyone is safe and enjoying the hunting seasons. I'll be in bear camp Sunday, can't wait...then meat season. Good luck all and be safe.
|
Good luck to you as well. I won't be heading out for bear (that I know of...I can always feel a "sick day" coming on... ;) ).
I haven't posted here in awhile but I am still around. You are right. There hasn't been a notable PA debate thread in some time. I remember several years ago when we had one individual who continued to come on here and cause quite a stir with his comments about hunting in PA and those involved with it. I have not seen him in years. Maybe he finally was content with the hunting opportunity on his own property. I have not scored yet this year but I am looking forward to the upcoming rifle season. |
I wasnt on for awhile . Till last night. I was thinking same thing SS,
Were did the pa boys go? Goodluck too the bear guys Goodluck too the ny guys in there gun season on sat. |
Maybe all the PGC supporters had a tough archery season and are having second thoughts about their support for the PGC. Despite the claims that ARs would improve the rut, there was no signs of rutting activity in my area of 5C. I never saw so few scrapes and rubs even though the herd is better that it was the last few years.
|
Hey, were all out hunting and too tired to sit in front of the puter and post. I too don't like the PGC's ideals but I really can't complain too much cause in the last 2 years I got 2 nice buck with the bow here in Northumberland Co. Didn't see too many deer, only 3 doe and 7 buck but 5 of those buck were shooters.
Grouse numbers are down. A lot of turkey - they seem to be everywhere (except when you're trying to find them.) Had them within 45 yds of me almost every time out when I had a bow in my hand. Now that I have the 17, I can't find them. Maybe I should put my treestand back up and sit in it for turkey.... |
It takes two to tangle and BT picked up his marbles and went home.
I have been more focused on my hunting and I came down with the swine flu last week. I thought I was too old to get it but I guess I must still be a youngster after all. I was also involved watching the world series and play-off games. |
I talked to BTB when I was in IL. He should be back by now. Hope all is well! with him and everybody.

Just got back on line. Caught a virus from this site. Had to reinstall everything along with putting in a new hard drive. I see a few members scored since I've been away. Got to offer my congrat's to them.

I was busy hunting for the most part. I had a hell of a ride the last week of archery. One of our gang got the biggest buck of his career to this point. My brother missed a huge 8 point and I shot over the back of a tremendous 9 point on the last Friday of the season. I caught this buck in a pattern he was following every day at about 4 pm. He would walk the perimeter of his valley checking for does and would walk a creekbed ever day. I set up in the valley on Friday and sure enough, here he comes! He came out at 18 yards. I was uphill (very steep) in a tree about 25 feet. He hit the opening and I settled the pin behind his shoulder and let fly. I was shooting straight down and I guess the angle screwed me as my arrow flew over him. He wheeled around and walked about 20 yards into the thick and stood there for 10 minutes. Then he walked uphill behind me, but it was too thick to get a shot. He milled around for awhile and then walked over the top and out of sight. DAMNED FRIDAY THE 13th! LOL! I had seen him several times and he is a very big 10 point that just failed to grow that g4 on the one side, hence 9 points. I would venture to say he was 20 inch spread with 12 inch g2 points. The mass was to die for! He still lives and I will be after him again soon. I gotta say that there are a ton of nice bucks this year. AR is working good for us. The buck that our guy got is pictured:

Watch what you say. I'm worried a little about Bob. He has been gone for a very long time and it seems a little out of the ordinary. I know I could track down his number if I tried. I'm hoping we hear from him soon. |

I check on here most days but I'm kinda burned out on the same old discussions and debates.I've had less time to hunt this year than usual but have had the best start of my season in my entire hunting career with a nice 8 point taken and several doe.I've also been scouting some new spots on public land when I get the chance and found a few spots that are pretty promising.I've been to the one spot the last two weekends. It's a steep, remote spot that was heavily timbered about 5 years ago.I saw several deer both times including one very nice buck and an almost pure white doe. This past saturday I was up there scouting and looking for bear sign and I jumped between 15-20 grouse. That's something I haven't seen in quite a few years.I also saw quite a bit of turkey sign.I have a dmap tag for that area so I plan on going up there with my one buddy next monday.I have no idea what to expect pressure wise so I'm not sure how we'll have to adapt.

Hey Guys! Just got back from Illinois about two hours ago. Cell service is a challenge out there and the web is nonexistant where we stay. Tough season out there this year. we have had an exceptionally wet fall out there and most of the corn was still unharvested as of mid November. That increases the bedding cover about 1000+ percent in our neck of the woods. They finally picked the corn on our place Nov 12 and then on Nov 14 began 5 days of relentless non stop rain. Our creek rose from it's 6" normal depth for this time of year to as high as 7 feet cutting us off from half the property. I did manage to lay eyes on several real whoppers and let the air out of a mid 130's 3 or 4 year old buck with strong mass and decent spread but was lacking a bit in tine length. One of our guys took a real bruiser with the shotgun last night that we all were in hot pursuit of. Also had a big male coyote spoil a shot opportunity on a 150 class buck. He paid the ultimate price for his rudeness and at least I got a huge (for out there) and flawless pelt. Havent decided whether to mount him or just tan the pelt, I'll post some pics and some stories in a day or so. Got doc appointments tomorrow but I'll get em loaded soon.
Thanks to all my freinds here for the concern but all is well, Just got better things to do this time of year. Steel is that this years buck? he's a nice one!! |

your hunting is definately unusual.:poke: I have unusual hunting because I don't sit and complain when I fail to see deer in the same old spots.I follow the changing food sources throught the year and I find the deer.I rarely every kill a deer in the spot in consequtive spots. The deer's habitat and food sources change too rapidly.I killed a doe from a spot the first day of archery season.I let my one buddy hunt that spot the rest of the seaon and by the fourth week he stopped seeing deer altogether. There was no mast and after the frost killed everything green, the spot dried up. |

Still alive and kickin' fellas. Been busy. Also hunting just about every available second and pulling stands before the orange army commences etc.
Was after 2 nice buck one in low 140's class and the other hadda be pushin' 150 gross. Couple close calls but closest calls were approx. 50 yards once on each! Saw one twice the other 3 times, once from the truck. No shot. No dice. they were leaving giant thigh sized rubs everywhere. Ended up a day late and a dollar short. Settled on a much smaller nothing special 8 that i passed on 3 different times during last two weeks. Took him second to last day in the evening for the sake of jerky and saving myself from going rifle season with the bow. Already itching for next year. My greatest enjoyment period of the year is now over, now the work begins... Bird dogging for every motherless son of a gun that I know who thinks I owe them a seasons worth of drives every year! lol.:s4: Anyway, good luck to everyone who hasnt scored yet, and have a happy thanksgiving.... You too beard.:poke: |

Congrats BT, Great Buck and real nice Dog!! I shot a decent 8pt on Nov 6th here in PA 5c Bucks Co, That took some of the sting out of the 8pt I lost out there in Lincoln Land. Not much though!! That one still hurts!!Congrats to all you PA Guy's that scored and good luck the rest of the year. I will be going to my camp in Pike Co rifle season to push around and help drag out deer and do some scouting! I have a Doe tag that I don't think I will use! The deer #'s are down on the SGL's that we hunt. There are some nice Bucks though to be had. I missed a Monster last year, but thats another story! Again GOOD LUCK BT and to all you PA guy's hunting next week!! BE SAFE!!

Great to see some nice bucks taken. Bow season was pretty much a wash for me, for various reasons. So was turkey season.
Plan on gettin' serious next Monday, to make up for it. :) |
Congrats Ed! Thats a fine lookin buck there. As we said when we talked out there, Illinois was tough this year. I took that guy the morning after the corn went down. Saw him pop out in the cut corn at 6:30 AM and can called him twice. He came in like he was on a rope and I shot him at 12 yards. The day after I shot him the sky opened up and it rained for 6 days straight. We were cut off from half the property when the creek thats normally almost dry rose 7 feet and stayed up for several days.
The coyote was 40 lbs on a scale. You're all invited over for the chinese buffet next week ![]() |
Congrat's on a nice buck jack! But your buck looks like he's still chewing.LOL

Plan on gettin' serious next Monday, to make up for it. :) even early muzz season was not good. i have not been to camps to see what they have to say this year ,only what i hear around area stopping and talking to friends. i have as of yet only seen 1 deer and it was 4 point that is not legal but has a real nice spread to it and looks like a 1.5 yr old buck.buck rubbing are all over this year, big areas.i can only guess that bucks are really traveling a long ways to rut. i had bear in my yard again last night and i believe he is sleeping over my bank because toby will not go within 15 ft of top of bank. 2 yrs ago i had 400 pd bear and 300 or more bear in my yard.its funny that they head to my yard about same time every year. |
