Legal Buck for Youth in PA

I would appreciate clarification on a legal buck for a youth hunter (age 14) during the PA rifle season. We are hunting a 3 point area. Thank you.

call game commision, but I think he can pop anything w/ a horn until they are 16.

Thanks. You are correct. 3" antler or 1 horn with 2 pts for the youth hunters.

I don't know if you are colorblind or not....MENTORED YOUTH HUNTING is ANTLERED ONLY

Youth hunting 12-16 is antlerless, with doe permit. Not brown its down, not button bucks!!!!!!!!!!!

If it is an antlerless hunt, I would think BB's are legal they are "antlerless". That would be why it is called antlerless season not doe season. You buy antlerless tags not doe tags.

Buck hunting and kill a BB you'll lose it, or Antlerless and kill a buck you'll lose it. Either way it goes against brown it's down, promotes identifying the target, less errant shots, and less of those headlines:"oops I just shot my son", " i just shot my friend", " i just shot my grandfather".

From you nifty link

Antlerless Deer:
A deer without antlers, or a deer with antlers both of which

are less than three inches in length

A BB has no antlers and would be legal if shot in antlerless season.

Just to clarify I do not agree with "It's brown it's down".

But I do believe a young hunter should be able to harvest any deer that they have a tag for. Regardless if it is BB or not. There are far to few young hunters why discourage them from hunting by saying "well yes it is legal to shoot but I don't want you to."

when can we get away from the "if it's brown, it's down" mentality

i am a meat hunter through and through...but come on guys, not something you want to put in a young hunter's head, let them shoot what is legal, and let them shoot what they are going to be proud of

Identifying the shot, make sure its a doe or buck, and don't take shots at running deer. Brown its down, marginal shots, oh crap " i just shot my dad" are not wise hunting practices. I've practiced QDM since 1987, and never once killed a spike I could kill with a rock!!!!!
