Countdown NY!

Well some of us anyway in NY are still waiting for the bow opener on the 17th...which is in 12 days!!

Who all is ready? Anything left to get ready?

Just need to put my broadheads on, do any final sight adjustments with those...hang the camo outside...and set up my backpack!

Hope it doesn't rain on the opener!

Bernie P. 10-05-2009 06:43 AM

That is what I have to do exactly. Been shooting for the last 1.5 months.

6 unlucky ducks are gonna have a very bad day this saturday, watched them tease me all during goose season, but soon theyll get acquainted w/ mr stoeger.

Bow is tuned and on, and the sonics are ready to eat on the 17th,

just finishing up some last minute house projects and the next 2 month are all mine:barmy:

NatureBoy09 10-06-2009 09:38 AM

Sighted in my brand new Knight long range hunter yesterday. Once bow season comes along there is never enough time for much else, so i figured i better get it done now.

nybowhunter 10-06-2009 09:47 AM

I've been ready. Can't wait!

crokit 10-06-2009 04:23 PM

The 17th can't get here quick enough. Usually it's archery firing me up around this time of year, but this year I'm spending 17th-23rd muzzle loader in the High Peaks near Saranac L:ake. I'm camped less than 1/2 mile from where I took the buck in my avitar.

The past three weeks I've left home 3am on Wed, drove three hundred miles, spent 3hrs hiking, 5hrs scouting, crashing, then home by noon Thursday. There is the most sign I've seen in years on the 20,000 acre Primitive Land I hunt. Camp is all set up minus some odds & ends I'm canoeing in tomorrow. Can't friggin' wait:barmy:

Can't wait for season down here! I gotta wash a load of laundry and buy a butt out tool. Anyone use the butt out tool? I hear they work well.

hunterdusty 10-06-2009 05:48 PM

hey troutman whereabouts in canandaigua are you from, im from hopewell on freshour road ya cant be to far away

Caleb T 10-06-2009 05:50 PM

I wish I were going out this bow season.. I just took my course in early december, but I haven't been able to get out and buy a string for my bow (no drivers license yet). So I have had zero practice. I have 2 recurves I got for $7 at a yard sale a couple years back. Good luck to all though. Especially if anyone is hunting 8T ;). Oh, and my Dad got 15 DMP's in the mail today :D!!

turkeygirl2 10-07-2009 04:56 AM

10 days left NY...wooo!!!!

Course it's raining, windy, and nasty again....great day yesterday....horrible today...nice again tomorrow...

Want to get out to scout a few state land areas for shotgun and I'm possibly having a couple friends down for gun season, who live up by the Adirondacks.

15 DMP's? Do you have a nuisance permit or something?? That's nuts!

Dude that cracks me up, if I was hunting in the Dacks and came across that I would laugh my arse off, I have hunted up there for many many years never seen a havasham camp like that, good luck on your adventure. Seems like a tent with a couple sterno cans for heat would be lighter, love Yurts though!

Trout and Dusty I know that are fairly well I hunt bunch of ground in the Hopewell/Canandaigua area, keep it a secret that the monsters roam nearby

Caleb T 10-07-2009 04:53 PM

Yeah, we have nuisance permits for our farm, we have a few hundred acres.
They always get into our garden... Pesky things.

Doefever 10-11-2009 01:32 AM

Troutman...The butt out tool really works. I tried it last year it was simple and effective!

well said!

I'm excited, got out and check our stand locations last Sunday. I even discovered an abandoned stand that was well hidden in a pine tree on our property (probably) from the previous owner (either way it's mine now) Just needs a new sheet of plywood for the base.

Otsdawa_Game_Hunter 10-13-2009 02:55 AM

I am ready to roll! Hunting in MA this week and then headed to NY for a week of leave (USCG Here). I saw a nice 6 pointer last night but he was 50 yards off and never got closer. I am stationed on Cape Cod and never thought I would see the quality of deer they have down here. Then again there are so many anti-everything types around here that nobody hunts but the old fellers. Best of luck to all of you guys and I will post this week if I stick a M@$$H0LE Deer!!!

kb777 10-13-2009 08:42 PM

Sorry Biggamefish & your side kick Bighorn i was just misinformed about the feed. It's just that I'm new to hunting with a bow and finding it hard to get them close. dealing with state land sucks and with people with your attitude. thanks

Troutman10 10-15-2009 07:00 PM

Dusty,
I'm originally from the Watertown area. This will be my second season in the Canandaigua area. I married a girl from Canandaigua. We just bought a house near the baseball fields on County Road 4 in the town of Canandaigua. I was just out on Freshour Road today at the Rod and Gun Club Shooting my Muzzler.

Cannuck,
We don't have big bucks around this area. What are you talking about???

joejr69 10-16-2009 01:49 AM

can't wait till morning!!the ground was taking on snow this morning:D the deer were on the move as i was driving to wokr this morning.seen a nice buck standing in the ditch.just need him to stay out of the road and walk by my stand.goodluck to all in the morning.

turkeygirl2 10-16-2009 10:26 AM

Yuppers, season is finally here...less than 24 hours! Got some snow on the ground here as well...and thankfully it's coming off some of the tree limbs...was kinda worried the limbs might cover up some shooting lanes. Either way I hope to at least some deer in the morning...get that old adrenaline rush back!

Be safe everyone! On the road and in your stand!

TheMiz54 10-16-2009 02:06 PM

Good luck everyone tomorrow morning. Be safe and lets see some NY deer on these forums

Shed94 10-16-2009 03:03 PM

Good luck to everyone this season!

kb777 10-18-2009 10:43 PM

Man i forgot how it felt to have deer around my stand with in bow range 14.5 yard on the first day. They never entered my shooting lanes. They stuck around for about 45min but never crossed my lanes. One deer was about to cross but the other Deer stay behind and made my doe turn around or something. They never did look up at me but still looked like they knew something was up. i thought i was going to finally pop my cherry with the bow. I also went out sunday morning in the rain and saw nothing, not even those pain in the ass squirrels. lol good luck to all. I hope to post the next time saying i got 1 finally with the bow

kb777 10-22-2009 09:31 PM

With the storm coming on Sat i hope theres alot of movement in the woods friday morning or afternoon. good luck every1

accman 10-23-2009 07:59 AM

I hunt lower Sullivan, and some years I see more deer browsing in the rain, than I do when it's nice. But this year could be different. I haven't seen this many acorns in our area for years, which means they don't really have to browse around as far. I'm hunting even in heavy rain. I brought a pop up just in case, find a high flat area, and give em hell. Can't waste a weekend since it's all I got. Good Luck.

kb777 10-26-2009 02:27 PM

i got 1 finally with the bow, no longer a virgin with the bow. It was about 19yard shot at a 2 year old doe i think.. It wasnt a big doe, 115pounds but i just wanted to put a deer down with the bow for the first time . Doe ran about 30yards and dropped, double lung shot but missed the heart. About 5min after 4 more does came in bow range and then a coyote.. I went 2 years with out anything and boom i saw everthing.. I was afraid that the coyote was going to get my down doe, it was only about 15yards rt. of my deer. The coyote saw me in my stand about 40 yards and spooked. This was friday afternoon about 160hrs. just beforestorm rolled in. The woods were alive with animals eating beforethe storm. thank you for all the advice and help some have gave ,thank you((( up top i meant 1650hrs))))
